Wild Boar Garden Civet Coffee Introduction
In 1901, the Japanese introduced Arabica coffee from Java and succeeded in cultivating it at the experiment station in Hengchun, Pingtung. In 1912, it was promoted to places such as Taitung and Hualien, establishing companies like the Eastern Taiwan Coffee Company, the Taitung Revitalization Company, and the Kimura Coffee Taiwan Division to specialize in the development of the coffee industry in Taiwan. By the 70th year of the Republic of China, there were nearly 30 hectares of coffee gardens in Taitung maintained by simple coffee farmers, who adhered to the principles of natural generation and practiced organic farming to cultivate fragrant and mellow energy coffee. Beinan Township in Taitung County, known for its bamboo forests, is situated between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range (commonly referred to as Jiugang Wind). Every winter when the northeast monsoon arrives, the bamboo leaves release a fragrant aroma, signaling the maturation of the coffee. The coffee farmers express their gratitude to the land and nature by sharing the joy of the bamboo scent and the coffee harvest.
