Wild Boar Garden Civet Coffee Introduction
In 1901, the Japanese introduced Arabica coffee to Pingtung Hengchun from Java, and the trial cultivation achieved fruitful results. In 1912, it was promoted to areas such as Taitung and Hualien, with the establishment of companies like the Eastern Taiwan Coffee Co., the Taitung Revitalization Co., and the Kimura Coffee Taiwan Division to specifically develop the coffee industry in Taiwan. By the 70th year of the Republic (1981), there were nearly 30 hectares of coffee plantations in Taitung, maintained by simple coffee farmers who adhered to the laws of natural regeneration and employed organic farming methods to cultivate fragrant and mellow energy coffee. Beinan Township in Taitung County, specifically the ancient name of the Puyuma people in Longguomai (NADANAW), is abundant in bamboo forests. Located in the Pacific Kuroshio Current region between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range (commonly known as Jiugang Feng), when the northeast monsoon arrives each winter, the aroma of bamboo leaves fills the air, coinciding with the ripening of coffee. Coffee farmers express their gratitude towards the land and nature by sharing the joy of the aromatic bamboo leaves and the coffee harvest.
