Hongye Village Introduction
In this quiet little village, there is a proud history. In 1968, the Bunun children from the Hongye Tribe formed the Hongye Little League team and defeated the then world champion team from Japan, sparking a craze for youth baseball in Taiwan and etching the Hongye Little League team into history. Besides baseball, Hongye Village has something special; it is designated by the Council of Agriculture as the "Taitung Hongye Village Cycas Natural Preserve." Originally, the unique Cycas plant of Taitung was mistaken for the commonly known Taiwanese cycad, but after verification by experts, it was discovered to be a living fossil that has developed for over 14 million years, thus renamed the Taitung Cycas. The Shooting Ear Festival held in April is the most grand and solemn ceremony for the Bunun tribe throughout the year. During this festival, you can witness a complete process of rituals including prayers, the shooting ear ceremony, distribution of pork, gun sacrificial ceremonies, and war achievements. Most importantly, the world-renowned Bunun tribe's Eight Part Harmony is performed here in the most authentic way possible. 【Source: Tribal Backpackers, Feng Taitung Tribal Travel Guide】
