Maple Leaf Village Introduction
In this quiet little village lies a proud history. In 1968, the Bunun children of Hongye Village formed the Hongye Little League team and defeated the then-world champion Japanese team, sparking a wave of enthusiasm for Little League baseball in Taiwan, and the Hongye Little League team became part of history. In addition to Little League, Hongye Village has another special aspect; it has been designated by the Council of Agriculture as the "Taitung Hongye Village Cycad Nature Reserve." Originally, the unique Taitung cycad was mistakenly identified as the commonly known Taiwanese cycad, but after verification by experts, it was discovered to be a living fossil dating back over 140 million years, and was consequently re-named the Taitung cycad. Every April, the Shear Ear Festival is the most grand and solemn ceremony for the Bunun people. During the ceremony, one can witness the complete process of rituals including blessing, shear ear rites, pork division, shotgun ceremonies, and the reporting of military achievements. Most importantly, the world-renowned Bunun eight-part harmony performances here offer a truly authentic experience. 【Source: Tribe Backpacker,丰台东, Tribe Travel Guide】
