Bunun Village Leisure Farm Introduction
In 1984, Pastor Bai Guangsheng returned to his hometown, Yanping Township in Taitung County, embodying the spirit of sowing seeds. In 1994, he began to contemplate a model that would balance the inheritance of indigenous culture with economic vitality. The following year, with the assistance of the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, he successfully established the "Bunun Cultural Foundation," the first indigenous-run organization. The Bunun Tribal Cultural Park, located in Taoyuan Village, Taitung County, operates in a way that allows visitors to experience the lifestyle, cultural heritage, and leisure industries of the indigenous people, thereby reconstructing indigenous culture and restoring their self-confidence. It also provides an opportunity for people to understand indigenous culture, making the entire park a comprehensive leisure farm that brings together traditional indigenous arts and culture, rich in tourist attractions. Currently, the park features two daily performances of the "Bunun Tribal Theater" (at 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM); if there are fewer than 30 visitors, performances may be canceled, so it is recommended to call in advance to inquire about the day's shows. Behind the performance theater is the "Special Products Center," which offers locally produced agricultural products from residents such as millet wine, essential oils, bamboo charcoal products, handmade essential oil soaps, fruit juices, jams, and stir-fried peanuts, as well as vibrant indigenous art creations. Additionally, there are dining options available at a gourmet restaurant and a café, both infused with indigenous artistic charm. The wooden tables and chairs, intricately designed, are a delight, while the roof displays a mix of colors and patterns from Bunun textile weaving. The environment is situated high above a valley with a broad view, providing a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere for dining. Along with delicious indigenous delicacies, the lively performances of Bunun music, and the opportunity to purchase unique local souvenirs, the park also offers accommodations in tribal homestays, allowing guests to experience the local living environment and participate in various enriching activities.
