Bunun Tribe Leisure Farm Introduction
In 1984, Pastor Bai Guangsheng, embodying the spirit of sowing seeds, returned to his hometown, Yanping Township in Taitung County, to serve the community. In 1994, he began to contemplate a model that balances the preservation of indigenous culture with economic vitality. The following year, with the assistance of the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, he successfully established the first "Bunun Cultural and Educational Foundation" founded by indigenous peoples. The Bunun Tribal Cultural Park, located in Taoyuan Village, Taitung County, operates in the form of a Bunun community, allowing visitors to experience indigenous lifestyles, cultural heritage, and recreational industries. This initiative aims to reconstruct indigenous culture and restore the self-confidence of indigenous peoples, while providing opportunities for people to gain an appreciation of indigenous culture. The entire park is a comprehensive leisure farm that integrates traditional indigenous arts and culture, rich in tourism appeal. Currently, the park features daily performances of the "Bunun Tribal Theater" at 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM (performances will not take place if there are fewer than 30 attendees; it is advised to call in advance to inquire about the day's performances). Behind the performance theater is the "Special Products Center," offering locally produced agricultural products from residents, such as millet wine, essential oils, bamboo charcoal products, handmade essential oil soaps, fruit juices, jams, and hand-roasted peanuts, as well as vibrant indigenous creative arts and crafts. Additionally, dining options include a flavor restaurant and café, featuring distinct indigenous artistic styles; the furniture is crafted from raw wood, with each design offering a surprise, while the roof incorporates the colors and patterns of Bunun woven fabrics. The environment here is situated at a high valley, providing a wide view and a relaxed atmosphere for dining. Besides delicious indigenous-style dishes, with lively and enjoyable Bunun music performances, visitors can also purchase unique local souvenirs. The park also offers tribal homestays, allowing guests to immerse themselves deeper into the local living environment of the Bunun people and engage in the rich and exciting activities available in the park.
