Hsin Fu Chen Trading Company Introduction

The fourth-generation owner of Hsin Fu Chen, Wu Hung-yi, stated that his great-grandmother originally made a living by selling meat dumplings at a stall next to the Cheng Huang Temple. Due to the delicious aroma and quality of ingredients, she gained popularity among both new and returning customers, leading to a thriving business. Encouraged by her customers, at just twenty years old, Great-grandmother Wu Zhang-huan purchased land at the current location to start a business, establishing what is now known as "Hsin Fu Chen Merchants." During the production of meat dumplings, her clever ideas of "scallion aroma, ingredient aroma, and lard aroma" evolved into the cake aroma. After extensive experimentation, she eventually created the century-old Hsinchu meat cake—Zhuqian Cake. Hsin Fu Chen is filled with an overwhelming variety of offerings, among which a few are widely recognized for their uniqueness: Zhuqian Cake, Shizhu Cake, and steamed egg cake, among others. The Zhuqian Cake features five characteristics—crispy skin, soft filling, just the right sweetness, an intense aroma, and no greasy feeling. Besides its unique flavor, the Zhuqian Cake is also affordable, priced at only twenty-five NT dollars. The Shizhu Cake, shaped like an ancient woman's hair comb combined with traditional creative elements, also draws attention. Visitors to Hsinchu must try this delicacy.
