The fourth-generation owner of Xinfu Zhen, Wu Hongyi, shared that his great-grandmother originally made a living selling rice dumplings at a stall next to the Chenghuang Temple. Due to her delicious seasoning, she gained popularity among both new and old customers, leading to a prosperous business. Encouraged by her patrons, at the young age of twenty, Wu Zhanghuan, his great-grandmother, purchased land at the current location to establish the "Xinfu Zhen Business," while her innovative approach to making rice dumplings—infusing flavors like scallion, ingredients, and lard—was transformed into the pastry flavor. After numerous trials, she finally created the renowned Hsinchu meat pancake—a specialty that has remained beloved for a century, aptly named "Zhuqian Cake." Xinfu Zhen Business offers a dazzling array of items, with several widely recognized specialties: Zhuqian Cake, Shuaifu Cake, and steamed egg cake among them. The Zhuqian Cake has five distinctive features: its skin is crispy, the filling is soft, it has the perfect amount of sweetness, it exudes rich aroma, and it does not feel greasy. In addition to its unique flavors, the Zhuqian Cake is reasonably priced at only twenty-five NT dollars.
