Hsin Fu Chen Trading Company Introduction

The fourth-generation owner of Hsin Fu Chen, Wu Hong-yi, stated that his great-grandmother originally made a living by selling meat rice dumplings at a street stall next to the Chenghuang Temple. Due to her fragrant seasonings, she gained popularity among both new and old customers, leading to a booming business. Encouraged by her customers, the great-grandmother, Wu Zhang-huan, at the young age of twenty, purchased land at the current site to start her own business, establishing what is known today as "Hsin Fu Chen Commercial House." During the making of the meat rice dumplings, her clever idea of blending "scallion fragrance, filling fragrance, and lard fragrance" into the flavor of the rice cake was finally perfected after several trials, resulting in the creation of the century-old delicacy known as the Zhuzhen Cake. The Hsin Fu Chen Commercial House offers a dazzling array of items, among which several are recognized as the most distinctive: Zhuzhen Cake, Chai Shu Cake, Steamed Egg Cake, and so on. The Zhuzhen Cake is characterized by five features: a crispy skin, a soft filling, just the right sweetness, an overwhelming aroma, and it doesn’t feel greasy. In addition to its unique flavor, the Zhuzhen Cake is quite affordable, at just twenty-five NTD each. The Chai Shu Cake, shaped like a traditional hair comb, is crafted with creativity passed down through generations. Visitors to Hsinchu must come and taste it!
