Xinglong Sour Plum

Taipei Foods

When visiting Tamsui, many people enjoy a cup of traditional sour plum soup. Each vendor has its own unique flavor, but the Xinglong sour plum, made from homegrown plums from Nantou, has even attracted attention from the Japanese magazine "Chobo-sha," making it popular among both Japanese tourists and locals. Originally established as the first stationery store in Tamsui, Xinglong began as a small shop that sold a variety of items. However, with the arrival of large shopping malls and the change in consumer habits, Xu Suliang, a bride from Nantou, introduced handmade plums from her family's home, transforming the store into a specialty shop for sour plum soup and plum products. The products do not contain artificial sweeteners or preservatives and are naturally healthy, with a balanced taste that is neither sticky nor overly salty. In addition to the sour plum tea made with perilla plums, the low-salt dried plums, perilla plums, and seedless plums are also very popular. Last spring, Xinglong underwent a renovation, with Xu Suliang's daughter, a student at a design school, personally creating the display cabinets and the stall at the entrance, which features a bright style that contrasts with the former dim and cluttered image of the shop. The business has notably improved, and the next step is to repackage the products to ensure they are not only genuinely good quality but also visually appealing to attract tourists to taste this authentic delight. Recommended products: low-salt dried plums, perilla plums.
