Zhang Baoren, the general manager of Changchun Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant Chain, comes from a family that sells vegetables. He worked part-time while studying at Cheng Kung University Affiliated Senior High School and also washed dishes at a self-service restaurant to help with family finances. Having apprenticed at a Sichuan restaurant, Zhang later chose vegetarianism due to his aversion to killing and his grandmother's advice to pursue vegetarian dining.
