Kaohsiung A-Po's Ice Introduction
The most iconic snack in Kaohsiung, "Apoza Ice," has been in operation since 1934, boasting over 70 years of history. The owner, affectionately known as Apoza, was originally named Tsai Gu, and the shop was initially called "Xing Sheng Hao Ice Fruit Shop." It was the female students of Kaohsiung High School who affectionately nicknamed the owner "Apoza," leading to the name change. The walls of the shop are adorned with black and white photos of Apoza’s pickled plums. Now run by the third generation, Tsai Yuan-yi continues to uphold the principle of using high-quality ingredients, making everything by hand without adding any colors or flavorings. From selecting ingredients to the pickling process, everything is done by hand without additives, which is why it is so beloved by the people of Kaohsiung. One of the most popular creations is the Apo Ice, which boasts a vibrant purple color from fresh dragon fruit, paired with various seasonal fruits, making it especially popular. The "Four Fruit Ice," composed of four types of pickled fruits—pickled plums, starfruit, pineapple, and green mango—offers a uniquely sweet and sour taste that is perfect for cooling off.
