Yifutang Old Store Introduction
Founded during the Japanese colonial era in Showa Year 3, the one hundred year-old shop Yi Fu Tang was established by Master Chen Zhou Cai, who chose a location close to a gathering of crowds in Dazhongmei Branch Town (now on Zhongzheng Road near Bamboo Guang Market). Yi Fu Tang specializes in selling pastries, and the delightful aroma of baking often wafts from its small storefront, particularly the freshly baked "Handmade Pineapple Cakes," which always attract numerous passersby and Japanese patrons. The "Handmade Pineapple Cake" from Yi Fu Tang is the most famous pastry from Central Taiwan during the Japanese occupation era. Founder Master Chen used the locally abundant "Wang Lai" pineapples from Wu Feng as a key ingredient, refining the recipe through repeated experiments to ingeniously incorporate the "sweet, oh so sweet" taste of the native fruit. Its bright orange color and rustic local flavor deeply moved many, quickly making it a signature item of Yi Fu Tang during that time. With the excellent skills passed down from grandfather, using genuine materials and adhering to traditional principles of making old-style pastries, Yi Fu Tang has diligently continued to produce authentic "Old Taichung Specialty Products" for generations. For instance, in the 1940s and 1950s, the renowned "Sun Cake," which spread through train sales, gained unforgettable refinement in texture from Yi Fu Tang, also fulfilling the role of a major supplier for retail stalls on train platforms and fast train attendants.
