Yifutang Old Shop Introduction

Founded in the third year of the Showa era during the Japanese colonial period, Master Chen Zhouchai established the "Yifutang Confectionery" in an area close to the bustling crowd in Meizhi Town, Da Tun (now on Zhongzheng Road in the Zhuguang Market). The small shop often wafts the fragrant aroma of pastries, especially the freshly baked "Handmade Pineapple Cake," which always attracts countless passersby and Japanese patrons. Yifutang's "Handmade Pineapple Cake" is the most renowned confection from central Taiwan during the Japanese occupation. Founder Master Chen used the locally abundant "Wanglai" fruit from Wufeng and, after repeated experimentation and refinement, cleverly integrated the sweet taste of the native fruit into the cake. Its orange-yellow color and simple local flavor deeply touched many hearts, quickly becoming a signature product of the Yifutang old shop during the Japanese occupation. Upholding the traditional principles of making authentic "Old Taichung Flavor Specialties," Yifutang has inherited excellent craftsmanship and genuine ingredients passed down from its ancestors. In the 1940s and 1950s, the famous "Sun Cake," which gained popularity through train sales, was particularly memorable for connoisseurs due to its delicate texture, and Yifutang became a major supplier for platform retail stands and fast train attendants.
