The Central Green River, originally named "Xinsheng Stream," was renamed in 1912. It was a highlight river in Taichung's "Little Kyoto" project during the Japanese occupation period. The small Xinsheng Bridge (now Zhongshan Green Bridge) was one of Taichung's eight major night views at the time.

Green River Waterfront Corridor Introduction

The Lüyuan New Sheng Bridge prioritizes water quality and flood prevention, breaking the traditional methods of waterfront landscape rehabilitation. It aims to create an ecological habitat, combining low-impact development. The Lüyuan waterfront embodies the image of a new gateway to Taichung Railway Station. The theme of the Lüyuan waterfront is centered on nature and arts, incorporating public art and water elements to create a diverse and creative artistic space, fused with various ASEAN cultural styles. By integrating historical buildings such as Miyahara Ophthalmology and Zhongshan Green Bridge, as well as the ruins of Sakura Bridge, it cultivates a scenic riverside rich in humanistic atmosphere. Drawing on the memories of shaded greenery along the banks, it features Taiwan's native tree species and hanging plants along the banks, presenting a unique waterways space while constructing a new Lüyuan shaded walking path. Nearby, visitors can explore the Lüyuan Water Culture and Environmental Education Center, which showcases the history related to Lüyuan, plays documentaries, displays old photos of Lüyuan, and surrounding models, allowing the public to gain a deeper understanding of Lüyuan.
