Roi Cafe, also known as King Butterfly Coffee, is undoubtedly a leading figure in the Chiayi coffee scene. One of the major events in the Chiayi coffee circle in 2019 was the significant return of Roi Cafe. The artistic owner, who has had a change of heart, opened in the second floor of the "Hardware Warehouse" in the Chiayi Cultural and Creative Industries Park, exuding the matured charm of a decade's worth of craftsmanship. The Hardware Warehouse, built in 1930, was once the tallest building in Chiayi City and is now designated as a city historic site. To present a deep tone and texture reminiscent of classical oil paintings, the designer painstakingly adjusted the colors under various lighting conditions until satisfied. When the afternoon sun casts its rays through the windows, the shadows on the red walls resemble the sparkling Bordeaux wine under lights, rightfully making it the "most stunning" winery café in Taiwan! Recently, Roi Cafe has invested in more professional roasting upgrades, sourcing coffee beans not only from major production areas around the world but also featuring a small quantity from Alishan. The owner, Wu, who is a professional photographer and one of the most skilled coffee roasters in Chiayi, believes that the main offering of a café should be abstract, simply presented through the tangible medium of coffee.
