Dong Yi Cheng Nostalgic Grocery Store Introduction
Founded in 1959 by founder Kang Wan-sheng and current owner Grandma A-mian, "Dong Yi Cheng Store" is a traditional grocery store selling tobacco, alcohol, tea, rice, oil, salt, canned salted fish, daily necessities, candies, and more, offering a wider and more diverse selection than today’s convenience stores. The peak period for Dong Yi Cheng Store was in the 1960s to 1970s, serving as the ticket station for Changhua Bus at Puli, where locals purchased tickets to Lukang in Changhua. The store enjoyed robust business with crowds of people coming and going. Although modern Taiwanese typically shop at convenience stores, supermarkets, or hypermarkets, the sense of human connection is often lacking. This human touch is the greatest motivation for Grandma A-mian to continue with the old store, as she enjoys chatting with young customers and caring for neighbors. After more than 60 years, Dong Yi Cheng Store remains a place that sells warmth and connection!
