25×40 Art Space Introduction
At 25 years old and working in Taipei, Huang Yizhen's dream of opening a coffee shop was inspired by reading the book "The Sad Coffee Shop Song." After 15 years in the workforce, she finally realized her dream at 40, on Zhongzheng Road in Chiayi City. This is the origin of the name 25x40 Art Space, reflecting two significant numbers. Stepping into the 25x40 Art Space, the old cypress wood house tells a story that spans over 60 years, which was why Huang Yizhen decided to lease it at first sight, spending three months on renovations. The high, open structure seems to welcome any passerby with open arms. The space offers occasional exhibitions and sales of cultural and creative works. During her time in graduate school, Yizhen noted that many artists and crafters rarely had opportunities to showcase their work, so she aimed to provide a platform for their creations to shine. In addition to selling physical products, Yizhen also curates various cultural activities, frequently inviting renowned individuals from across the country to hold lectures, workshops, and concerts, hoping to promote artistic exchange and activity in Chiayi City. The cypress wood house was once connected to the neighboring building. Craftspersons reported that the wood used in the house is a premium type from Alishan, suggesting that the house may have once belonged to someone of substantial power or economic status. With the passage of time, this house has shed its past fame and fortune. After encountering Yizhen, it has transformed into the first open art space in Chiayi City, sincerely inviting anyone with artistic aspirations to come share their beautiful dreams here.
