Oyster Village Round Soup Introduction

Although it is just a small round rice ball soup stall, Ouliao Round Rice Ball Soup has withstood over sixty years of changing seasons and has become a sweet memory for the people of Beimen Ouliao. Almost every Ouliao resident has eaten Ouliao Round Rice Ball Soup, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood, getting married, having children, and even becoming grandparents who bring their grandchildren for a steaming bowl of round rice ball soup. The Ouliao Round Rice Ball Soup stall was founded by Wang Diaolong (born in 1916) in 1952, initially selling at a vegetable market next to the Zhuangmiao Bao'an Temple. In 1969, when the vegetable market closed, it became a mobile stall in front of the Bao'an Temple, continuing to this day. In addition to making round rice ball soup, Wang Diaolong also produced and sold traditional sponge cakes and was a master of traditional dough techniques. The Ouliao Round Rice Ball Soup was later passed down to his daughter Wang Yuanhua, then to his son Wang Yuanyan, and is now run by his granddaughter Wang Lijin. Wang Lijin and her sister Wang Yali have been selling round rice ball soup since elementary school, pushing their stall to the Zhuangmiao Bao'an Temple, so they have become adept at making round rice balls and cooking the soup. Wang Lijin has her own philosophy and insistence on maintaining the traditional flavor of the round rice ball soup.
