Shanhai Family Introduction
Shanhai Family is built on the hillside above Qingfan Village, featuring an outwardly unremarkable milky white building that hides significant historical stories and hardships from the history of Xiju Island. In 1949, after the mainland fell, over 4,200 young soldiers formed a guerrilla team to guard this area, however, the Ministry of National Defense only allocated food supplies for 1,257 men. The guerrilla team managed to sustain themselves under such harsh conditions, launching several raids across the strait, which resulted in the loss of more than 2,000 soldiers, with many tragic sacrifices. In 1950, with the outbreak of the Korean War, U.S. intelligence units, under the alias "Western Company," were stationed here to train the East Sea Forces for intelligence and guerrilla operations against the mainland. The headquarters of the Eastern Sea Forces was located within Shanhai Family at that time. Now gradually transforming into a café, Shanhai Family has stood for over sixty years, witnessing the fading of those brave soldiers, while quietly standing on the slope of Qingfan Mountain, bearing witness to that tumultuous period filled with blood and tears.
