Mountain and Sea Family Introduction
Shanhai Family, built on the hillside above Qingfan Village, is an unassuming milky-white building that carries many important historical stories and hardships from Xiju Island. In 1949, after the mainland fell, over 4,200 young soldiers formed guerrilla squads to guard this area. However, the Ministry of National Defense only allocated food rations for 1,257 people. The guerrilla squads had to be self-sufficient in such harsh conditions, carrying out several crossings to launch attacks on the mainland, which resulted in over 2,000 soldiers' casualties, a truly tragic loss. In 1950, with the outbreak of the Korean War, the U.S. military's intelligence unit, under the alias "Western Company," was stationed here to train the East Sea troops for intelligence work and guerrilla operations against the mainland. The base of Western Company and the command center of the East Sea troops were located in Shanhai Family. Now slowly transforming into a café, Shanhai Family has stood for over six decades. The once-vibrant soldiers are fading away, leaving Shanhai Family to quietly stand on the slope of Qingfan Mountain, witnessing that turbulent period filled with blood and tears.
