Shanhai Family Introduction
Shanhai Yijia, located on the hillside above Qingfan Village, appears to be an ordinary off-white building at first glance, yet it holds many significant historical stories and bittersweet memories from Xiju Island. In 1949, after the fall of mainland China, over 4,200 recruits formed guerrilla units to defend this area. However, at that time, the Ministry of National Defense was only willing to allocate rations for 1,257 troops. Under such difficult circumstances, the guerrilla units became self-sufficient and launched multiple raids across the strait, resulting in the loss of over 2,000 soldiers, suffering immense casualties. In 1950, with the outbreak of the Korean War, a U.S. intelligence unit operating under the name "Western Company" was deployed to train the Donghai forces for intelligence and guerrilla operations against the mainland. The location of the Western Company and the headquarters of the Donghai forces were situated within Shanhai Yijia. Currently, Shanhai Yijia is slowly transforming into a café, having been established for over half a century. As the veterans from those times gradually pass away, Shanhai Yijia stands quietly on the hillside of Qingfan, witnessing that tumultuous period filled with intertwined tears and blood.
