Matsu Harbor Introduction
Méng'ào Port is the maritime gateway of Dongju, and the helicopter airport is also nearby; it takes only a 10-minute walk to the bustling Daping Village. After the port's completion, fish aggregation has made this area the safest sea fishing spot in Dongju. The term "Méng" in Matsu dialect means "fishing net," as local fishermen used to mend and dry their nets here, hence the name. Due to population outflow, only a few households remain here. Additionally, because Dongju Island is located at the mouth of the Min River, river sand has accumulated at Méng'ào over the years, forming a spacious, flat, high-quality sandy beach ideal for travelers to enjoy summer water activities. At night, there are often shimmering microorganisms at Méng'ào Beach, allowing visitors not only to swim at night but also to "walk on star sand" on the beach, making it an excellent choice for nighttime activities in Dongju. Not far from Méng'ào Port is a gently sloping coastal terrace, where the recently discovered Chipinglong archaeological site is located, revealing a large number of pottery shards, shell heaps, and stone tool fragments, dating back more than six thousand years to prehistoric times, serving as a record of human life in prehistoric eras.
