Matsu Harbour Introduction
Mengao Harbor is the maritime transportation gateway for Dongjue, and a helicopter airport is nearby; it is only a 10-minute walk to the bustling Daping Village. After the completion of the port, the aggregation of fish has made it the safest sea fishing spot in Dongjue. In the Matsu dialect, "Meng" means "fishing net," as fishermen used to repair and dry their nets here, hence the name. Due to population outflow, only a few households currently reside here. Additionally, since Dongjue Island is located at the mouth of the Min River, the river sand has accumulated over the years at Mengao, forming a wide, flat, high-quality beach with fine white sand, making it the best place for travelers to enjoy water activities in summer. At night, Mengao Beach often has sparkling microorganisms, allowing visitors not only to swim at night but also to "step on star sands" on the beach, making it an excellent choice for night outings in Dongjue. Not far from Mengao Harbor, there is a gently sloping marine terrace, which is the recently discovered Chipinglong archaeological site. A large number of pottery shards, shell middens, and stone tool fragments have been found here, with origins dating back to over six thousand years ago in prehistoric times, serving as a record of human life in the prehistoric era.
