Matsu Harbor Introduction
Méng'ào Port is the maritime transportation gateway for Dongju, with a helicopter airport nearby; it is only a 10-minute walk from the bustling Daping Village. After the port's completion, the gathering of fish has made this area the safest sea fishing spot in Dongju. The term "Méng" in Matsu means "fishing net". In the past, fishermen often repaired and dried their nets here, which is how it got its name. Due to population outflow, only a few households currently reside here. Furthermore, because Dongju Island is located at the estuary of the Min River, the river sand accumulates at Méng'ào over the years, forming a broad, flat, quality sandy beach that is the best spot for tourists to enjoy water activities in the summer. At night, Méng'ào Beach is often illuminated by bioluminescent microorganisms, allowing visitors to swim at night and "step on the star sand" on the beach, making it an excellent choice for night outings in Dongju. Not far from Méng'ào Port, there is a gently sloping coastal platform known as the Chipinglong archaeological site, where a large number of pottery shards, shell middens, and stone tool fragments have been discovered, dating back over six thousand years to the prehistoric era, providing a record of human life in ancient times.
