Yulu Ancient Trail Introduction
The historical trail connecting Dapu and Daping, known as the "Yulu Ancient Trail" or "Xiadil Road," has a history of over a hundred years. This trail served as a vital route for fishermen in Dapu to transport their catch to Daping during times of hardship. The residents of the two communities would hustle back and forth between Daping and Dapu to make ends meet. Today, as the fishing industry has declined, the old trail became a desolate site due to population migration from both villages. However, with the cooperation of the Dongju Community Development Association and Dongju Elementary School, residents have come together to clear weeds and plant trees, restoring the ancient trail and transforming it into an ecological park. The ecosystem along the trail is incredibly rich, with various migratory birds and butterflies bringing surprises at each corner with the changing seasons. Native plants add vibrant colors to the trail throughout the year. Each September, the red spider lilies bloom profusely along the hillside paths; in October, visitors can enjoy the sweet milky fragrance of "zheguo" (Wax apple); and in November, clusters of yellow chrysanthemum create a golden carpet. In recent years, the Dongju Community Association has also begun updating the vegetation, reviving not only native spider lilies but also the Matsu lily and pear trees, as well as planting peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, and passion fruit. This aims to add more diversity to the appearance of the old trail. The Yulu Ancient Trail originally had two exits. Starting from Dapu, one can walk straight to Daping Village, while a turn at the fish drying area leads past "Puzuo" (near the current power plant) to Mengao Harbor. Taking a trip along the ancient trail allows one to experience the hardships faced by the ancestors who walked with burdens along this path.
