Dapu Rock Carvings Introduction
The Dapu Stone Carvings, an important historical site commemorating achievements, is a designated third-level ancient monument located at the southernmost point of Dongjyu Island in Taiwan's Fujian region. Discovered by the National Army in 1953, a pavilion was built to protect the site from damage. The inscriptions on the rock surface recount the significant achievements of General Shen Yourong who, during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, captured 69 pirates in Dongjyu without causing any casualties among his troops. The script was penned by Dong Yingju, then Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Works, and serves as a precious testament to the history of rampant piracy in Matsu. Looking out from the Dapu Stone Carvings, one can see the surrounding encampments in the sea, and visitors can venture down to the beach along the wooden walkway to explore the rugged reefs, which offer a unique experience. The Dapu Stone Carvings not only document the glorious military accomplishments of General Shen You-Rong, but locals also share the legend that the stone carvings themselves are a treasure map. If one can decipher the clues hidden within the text, they may discover treasures hidden somewhere on Dongjyu Island. Visitors are encouraged to use their brains when visiting the Dapu Stone Carvings! Note: Visitors are reminded that the wooden walkway is near the shore, and has been subjected to long-term wind, rain, and sun exposure. Please walk carefully, and while exploring the rocky areas by the sea, be mindful of the tides and ensure safety.
