Dabu Rock Carvings Introduction
Dapu Stone Inscription is an important historical site recording achievements, classified as a third-level historic site in the Taiwan-Fujian area. It is located at the southernmost tip of Dongju Island and was discovered by the Nationalist Army in 1953. To prevent damage to the monument, a commemorative pavilion was built for protection. The inscription on the rock records the great achievement of General Shen Yourong, who captured 69 Japanese pirates without harming a single soldier during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The text was written by Dong Yingju, then Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Works. It serves as a valuable testimony to the rampant activities of Japanese pirates in Matsu's early history. Looking from Dapu Stone Inscription, one can see the surrounding coastal fortifications. Walking along the wooden path leads down to the seaside, where the jagged rocks create a unique landscape. Not only does Dapu Stone Inscription document the brilliant military achievements of General Shen Yourong, but local residents also pass down the legend that the stone itself is a treasure map. If one can decipher the hints hidden in the text, they may find treasures hidden somewhere on Dongju Island. Tourists visiting Dapu Stone Inscription are encouraged to engage their minds in this adventure! Note: Visitors are reminded that the wooden path is near the seaside, which is subject to long-term erosion from wind and rain. Please be cautious while walking, and when exploring the rocky areas by the sea, be aware of tidal conditions and prioritize safety.
