Dapu Rock Carvings Introduction
Dapu Stone Carvings is an important historical site that records achievements. It is a third-level historic site located at the southernmost tip of Dongju Island in the Taiwan Strait region. It was discovered by the Nationalist Army in 1953, and to prevent damage to the monument, a Huai Gu Pavilion was built for protection. The inscription on the rock records the remarkable achievement of General Shen Yourong during the Ming Dynasty's Wanli period, who captured 69 pirates on Dongju Island without losing a single soldier. The calligraphy was done by Dong Yingju, the Right Vice Minister of the Ministry of Works at that time, serving as a precious witness to the history of rampant piracy in Matsu. Looking out from the Dapu Stone Carvings, one can see the surrounding Tangqi Fort in the sea. Visitors can take a wooden walkway down to the shore to explore the rugged rocks, which reveal a different world. Dapu Stone Carvings not only commemorates the brilliant military exploits of the famous general Shen Yourong, but local residents also pass on the legend that the carvings themselves are a treasure map. If one can decipher the hints embedded within the text, they may find hidden treasures somewhere on Dongju Island. Tourists visiting the Dapu Stone Carvings are encouraged to exercise their minds! Note: Visitors are reminded that the wooden walkway is located near the shore and may be subject to long-term erosion from wind, rain, and sunlight. Please walk carefully and slowly, and be mindful of the tides when playing in the seaside rock area for safety.
