Dapu Stone Carvings Introduction
Dapu Stone Inscription is an important historical site that documents achievements. It is a designated third-level historical monument in the Taiwan-Fujian region, located at the southernmost point of Dongju Island. Discovered by the Nationalist Army in 1953, a memorial pavilion was built to protect the monument from damage. The inscriptions on the rock record the remarkable deeds of General Shen Yourong during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, who captured 69 Japanese pirates in Dongju without harming a single soldier. The calligraphy was penned by Dong Yingju, then the Right Minister of Works, leaving a precious testament to the early history of rampant Japanese piracy in Matsu. From the Dapu Stone Inscription, one can observe the surrounding coastal stone fortifications. Walking along the wooden walkway to the shore, visitors will find rugged rocks that create a unique and enchanting atmosphere. Not only does the Dapu Stone Inscription commemorate the glorious military achievements of General Shen Yourong, but local legends also suggest that the inscription itself is a treasure map. If one can decipher the hints hidden within the text, they may find hidden treasure somewhere on Dongju Island. Visitors to the Dapu Stone Inscription might want to exercise their minds! Note: Visitors are reminded that the wooden walkway is located near the shore and has been subjected to long-term wind, rain, and sun exposure. Please walk carefully. When playing in the rocky coastal area, be aware of the tides and prioritize safety.
