Liao Dao Ao Introduction
The valley reservoir along the coast beside the station offers a panoramic view of the Lidao Ao Reservoir from the heights of the North Circumference Road. Located in the northern part of Xiju Island, Lidao Ao Reservoir is situated about one-third of the way along the left side of the inverted triangle's top edge. It features an open valley that initially faces northeast before turning north, with sediment accumulation at the valley's mouth forming an inlet known as Laodao Ao. Due to the unappealing nature of its original name, it was later renamed for its phonetic resemblance to "Lidao Ao." To address the perennial drought on the island and the shortage of water sources, residents dug wells, but supplies were still insufficient for daily use. Consequently, the military chose to construct a dam in this valley to collect water, with assistance from stationed soldiers. This reservoir serves vital functions such as providing water for daily life, defense, and irrigation, covering a catchment area of approximately 12 hectares. Today, Lidao Ao has become a popular spot for residents to enjoy the picturesque bay and nearby mountain scenery. On clear days, the signboard along the North Circumference Road offers an excellent vantage point for admiring the mainland's landscapes and sunsets. Along the North Circumference Road, there are scattered abandoned positions, with some lookout points featuring stairs leading down to the coast, making them great spots for exploration and discovery.
