Lao Dao Ao Introduction
The valley reservoir beside the coast can be viewed from the elevated sections of the North Circular Road, offering a clear view of the entire Le Dao Ao Reservoir. Le Dao Ao Reservoir is located to the north of Xiju Island, about one-third of the way from the left side of its triangular top. It initially opens northeast and later turns north, resembling an open valley. The mouth of the valley has accumulated sediment, forming an inlet referred to as Lao Dao Ao. Due to the unappealing original name, it was later renamed for its phonetic similarity to "Le Dao Ao." To address the long-standing drought and water shortages on the island, residents dug wells, but the water was still insufficient for daily needs. Therefore, the military decided to build a dam in this valley area to collect water, with assistance from the stationed soldiers in the construction. This reservoir serves multiple purposes, including civil use, defense, and irrigation, covering a catchment area of approximately 12 hectares. Today, Le Dao Ao has become a great spot for residents to enjoy the beautiful views of the bay and the nearby mountains. On sunny days, the information sign along the North Circular Road becomes an excellent place to appreciate the mainland's landscapes and the sunset. Along the circular road, abandoned military posts can be found, some of which have stairs leading down to the coast, making them intriguing locations for exploration.
