Lao Dao Ao Introduction
The valley reservoir along the coast next to the station offers a distant view of the entire Lekdao Ao Reservoir from the high points of the North Circular Road. The Lekdao Ao Reservoir is located in the northern part of Xij island, about one-third to the left of the top side of the inverted triangle. Initially an open valley facing northeast, it later turned northward, but the mouth of the valley has accumulated silt, forming the estuary called Laodao Ao. Due to the unsightly name, it was later renamed "Lekdao Ao" for its phonetic similarity. To address the chronic drought and water scarcity on Xij, residents were digging wells for water, which were insufficient for daily needs. As a result, the military decided to build a dam in this valley to collect water, with construction assistance from stationed soldiers. This reservoir serves multiple functions: it supports civilian life, defense needs, and irrigation, with a catchment area of about 12 hectares. Today, Lekdao Ao has become a great place for residents to enjoy the beautiful views of the bay and the surrounding mountains. On clear days, the signboard along the North Circular Road is an excellent spot to appreciate the mainland's scenery and the sunset. Along the circular road, abandoned outposts are scattered, and some observation posts have steps leading down to the coast, making them great places for exploration and discovery.
