Lao Dao Ao Introduction
The valley reservoir located alongside the coast can be viewed from a high point on the North Circular Road, with a full view of Le Dao Ao Reservoir. Le Dao Ao Reservoir is situated to the north of Xiju Island, about one-third to the left of the top edge of an inverted triangle. It was originally an open valley facing northeast, later turning northward. The mouth of the valley has accumulated silt, forming a bay called Lao Dao Ao. Due to its unrefined name, it was later renamed "Le Dao Ao," which sounds similar. To address the long-standing drought and water shortages on Xiju, where residents found that well water was insufficient for daily use, the military chose to build a dam in this valley to collect water, with the assistance of stationed troops. The reservoir serves multiple functions, including supporting the livelihood of the residents, enhancing military defense, and providing irrigation, with a catchment area of about 12 hectares. Today, Le Dao Ao has become a great spot for residents to appreciate the stunning views of the bay and the nearby mountains. On clear days, the display sign at the North Circular Road is an excellent location for enjoying the majestic mainland and sunset. Along the Circular Road, there are abandoned military posts, some of which have stairs leading down to the coast, making them great places for exploration and adventure.
