Siaogang Airport Park Introduction
The Saijia Aviation Park is located in Saijia Village, Sandimen Township, Pingtung County. Due to the shelter provided by the Central Mountain Range, it forms relatively stable updrafts, which can reach heights of around 1,000 meters, with a flight area of 16 kilometers. The spacious activity space and the proximity to the Pingtung Plain make it an ideal landing site. Both the climate and environment are highly suitable for paragliding and hang gliding, which is why it has been planned as the first aviation-themed park in the country. The facilities at Saijia Aviation Park are divided into three parts: a mountain take-off area, a flat landing area, and a comprehensive gliding training camp. The mountain take-off area, located on the eastern side, features steep terrain with high slopes, which naturally creates an excellent take-off zone due to stable updrafts. On the western side, the flat landing area consists of a level plain, which not only offers beautiful scenery and broad visibility but also has few obstructions on the ground, making it the most suitable landing site. As for the comprehensive gliding training camp located at the southern end of the park, there are plans for accommodation, but it is currently only used as a training site for athletes and public groups and is not open to the public. Benefiting from favorable climatic conditions, the optimal flying period at Saijia Aviation Park is typically from around 10 AM to 4 PM every day, as stable thermal currents often occur during this time. The best flying season is approximately from December to March of the following year. It is not only the first in Taiwan but also the only place in Asia where paragliding and hang gliding can be practiced during winter. Each year, it attracts many flying enthusiasts from both domestic and international locations to experience the thrill of soaring through the sky.
