Sanchong Air Park Introduction
Saijia Aviation Park is located in Saijia Village, Sandimen Township, Pingtung County. Due to the barrier of the Central Mountain Range, it creates relatively stable updrafts, with an uplift height of about 1,000 meters, and a flying area that extends to 16 kilometers. The spacious activity space, combined with the proximity to the Pingtung Plain, makes it an ideal landing site. Both the climate and environment are very suitable for paragliding and hang gliding, thus it has been planned as the first aviation-themed park in the country. The facilities at Saijia Aviation Park are divided into three parts: the mountain takeoff area, the flat landing area, and the comprehensive hang gliding training camp. The mountain takeoff area on the eastern side features steep terrain and high slopes, along with stable updrafts, making it a natural choice for takeoff. In contrast, the flat landing area on the western side has a level plain terrain, not only offering beautiful scenery and broad views but also being the most suitable landing area due to the scarce ground obstacles. As for the comprehensive hang gliding training camp at the southern end of the park, while there are accommodations planned, it is currently only used as a training site for athletes and public groups and is not open to the public. With its climatic advantages, the optimal flying time at Saijia Aviation Park is approximately from 10 AM to 4 PM daily, as stable thermal currents are often present during this period. The best flying season is roughly from December to March the following year, making it not only the first of its kind in Taiwan but also the only location in Asia where paragliding and hang gliding activities can be conducted in winter. It attracts many flight enthusiasts from both domestic and international backgrounds to experience the thrill of soaring in the sky each year.
