Electric Light Tribe Introduction
The Kaadaadaan Tribe is located at the foothills on the west side of the Central Mountain Range, across the Peinan River from Guanshan Township in Taitung. This area was formerly known as Leigonghu, which, according to legend, was named for the presence of mud volcanoes that frequently ignited fires at night. Residents believed these strange flames were caused by lightning, hence the term "Leigonghu," with "Leigong" meaning thunder god in Hokkien. When visiting the Kaadaadaan Tribe, the most notable feature is the Kaadaadaan Elementary School. This mini school, with fewer than 40 students, has developed a robust school-based curriculum, earning accolades such as being listed among the top ten classic special elementary schools by the Ministry of Education and one of the top 100 special elementary schools by Business Weekly. Among the highlights offered by Kaadaadaan Elementary School are the bamboo cannon experience and performances of traditional Amis percussion instruments. The bamboo cannon, a tool used by local Amis people over a hundred years ago to scare off invading Qing soldiers, has now become a popular activity for tourists. The traditional Amis percussion performances are taught by the Gagan Percussion Troupe from Taitung, and they have also become a key highlight for welcoming guests to Kaadaadaan. 【Source: Tribe Backpackers, Taitung Tourism Guide】
