Guanshan Police History Museum Introduction
When it comes to police stations, the general public often perceives them as serious and untouchable places. However, the police station in Guanshan Township, Taitung County, is quite different. Although the Guanshan Police Station is located in a small town, it has a strong sense of friendliness and nostalgia. As soon as you step inside the Guanshan Police Station, you can feel the unique atmosphere. In addition to regular duties, it particularly focuses on the integration of "quality, tourism, and community." They provide convenient services such as bicycle rentals, blood pressure measurements, coffee, and tea, and the officers are friendly in guiding tourists. To preserve the gradually fading police artifacts, the Guanshan Police Station has specially planned a "Guanshan Police History Museum" in the former Japanese police office. Police colleagues have contributed early documents and historical artifacts, including uniforms, criminal tools, communication and security equipment, as well as desks, bookshelves, stationery, and even antique hand-cranked telephones. There is also an "air raid siren" that visitors can touch, allowing them to not only see but also operate it, which is a very special experience. This enables visitors to gain insight into the evolution of police work from the past to the present and appreciate the hard work of public servants while performing their duties. The Guanshan Police Station still retains the traditional Japanese wooden architecture of the past, with corridors, wooden windows, wooden railings, wooden doors, and walls that exude a rich historical flavor. Wandering through the wooden structure feels like stepping back into the 1940s, evoking nostalgia. After visiting the police artifacts, you can relax in the elegantly retro courtyard, enjoying the beautiful garden pond scenery while sipping coffee or tea, experiencing a different kind of friendly feeling within the solemn police station.
