Guanshan Police History Museum Introduction
When it comes to police stations, the general public often perceives them as serious and off-limits places. However, the police station in Guanshan Township, Taitung County, is different. Although the Guanshan Police Station is just a branch located in a small town, it exudes a warm and nostalgic vibe. Upon entering the Guanshan Police Station, one can immediately feel a different atmosphere. In addition to regular duties, the station places special emphasis on the integration of "quality, tourism, and community." It not only offers convenient services such as bike rentals, blood pressure checks, coffee, and tea, but the officers are also friendly and provide guided tours for visitors. To preserve the gradually fading police artifacts, the Guanshan Police Station has specially transformed its former office into the "Guanshan Police History Museum." Police colleagues provide early documents, historical artifacts, and various items, including uniforms, criminal tools, communication and security equipment, as well as desks, bookcases, stationery, and even antique hand-cranked telephones. There is also an "air raid alarm" that allows visitors to interact with it, offering a unique experience where they can not only observe but also operate it firsthand. This allows visitors to understand the evolution of police work from past to present and appreciate the hard work of those serving the public. The Guanshan Police Station still retains its traditional Japanese-style wooden architecture, with corridors, wooden windows, railings, doors, and walls that all exude a rich historical flavor. Walking through the wooden structure feels like traveling back to the 1940s, which can evoke a nostalgic sentiment. After exploring the police artifacts, visitors can relax in the elegantly decorated courtyard, enjoying a beautiful garden pond while sipping coffee or tea, experiencing a different kind of warmth within the solemn police station.
