Taitung Old Rail Trail Introduction
The Taitung Old Railway Corridor is 6 kilometers long, extending from the former Taitung Train Station, which was officially closed on June 1, 2001. After the county government sought central subsidies, the old railway between the former train station and Beinan Great Irrigation Canal was transformed into a wooden boardwalk, becoming an important recreational walking space for Taitung residents. The scenery along the Old Railway Corridor varies significantly; near the city center, while trees are planted along the road, the community corridor garden landscape created by residential homes and businesses on both sides is also quite distinctive. After passing Kaifeng Street and continuing further until crossing the Taiping River, one can see the Zeng Zhengyuan Art Space, which was originally Malan Station, where the preserved platform offers a place to temporarily rest. At the end of the Old Railway Corridor, one can view the antiquated Taiping River Railway Bridge. This entire Old Railway Corridor connects through Taitung City, making it a perfect spot for leisure, walking, and cycling.
