Nanwang Village Introduction
Nanwang Village, also known as Pinuyumayan, is one of the eight communities of the Puyuma tribe and is located at the northern end of Taitung City, right at the point where Highway 9 enters the green tunnel. When visiting Nanwang Village, you can first explore the century-old Nanwang Elementary School, where the entrance, commander’s platform, colonnades, walls, and even the stones in the schoolyard are all adorned with traditional Puyuma patterns, radiating strong Puyuma cultural characteristics throughout the campus. Next to the school is the Puyuma Traditional Cultural Activity Center, which serves as the focal point for cultural activities in the entire Nanwang Village. Inside the activity center, there are traditional structures built using ancient methods, including the Palakuwan, Takouvan, Kalumaan (ancestral worship house), a lookout tower, and a wrestling area. Every July, the Nanwang Village Sea Festival and in December, the Grand Hunting Festival, are grandly held here, making it the best time to observe village culture and an ideal spot for photographers who enjoy capturing cultural celebrations. 【Source: Tribe Backpacker, Rich Taitung Tribal Travel Guide】
