Nanwang Tribe Introduction
The Nanwang Tribe, belonging to the Puyuma people and one of the eight communities of the Beinan Tribe, is located at the northern end of Taitung City, right at the point where Provincial Highway 9 is about to enter the green tunnel. When visiting the Nanwang Tribe, you can first explore the century-old Nanwang Elementary School. The entrance, command platform, corridor pillars, walls, and even the stones in the campus are all adorned with traditional patterns of the Beinan Tribe, giving the entire school a strong Beinan character. Next to the school is the Puyuma Traditional Cultural Activity Center, which serves as the cultural hub for the entire Nanwang Tribe. Inside the activity center, you will find structures built using traditional methods, such as the Palakuwan, takouvan, kalumaan, watchtower, and wrestling ground. Every July, the Nanwang Tribe hosts its annual sea festival, and in December, the grand hunting festival is held here, making it the best time to observe the tribal culture and an ideal location for photographers who enjoy capturing cultural celebrations. 【Source: Tribal Backpackers, Rich Taitung, Tribal Travel Guide】
