Nanwang Village Introduction
Nanwang Village, also known as Pinuyumayan, is one of the eight communities of the Puyuma people and is located at the northern end of Taitung City, right at the point where Provincial Highway No. 9 enters the Green Tunnel. When visiting Nanwang Village, one can first explore the century-old Nanwang Elementary School. The school is adorned with traditional Puyuma designs on its gates, command platform, colonnades, walls, and even the stones within the campus, exuding strong Puyuma cultural characteristics. Next to the school is the Puyuma Traditional Cultural Activity Center, which serves as the cultural hub for the entire Nanwang Village. Inside the activity center, there are structures built using traditional methods, including the Palakuwan, Takouvan, Kalumaan ancestral spirit house, lookout tower, and wrestling area. The annual Sea Festival in July and the Great Hunting Festival in December are grandly celebrated here, making it the best time to observe village culture and an ideal location for photographers interested in capturing cultural celebrations.
