Shihshan Village Introduction
Fufeng Village is nestled between Shitou Mountain and Beinan River on the outskirts of Taitung City. It is also known as Shishan Village due to its location under Shitou Mountain. Shishan Village refers to the same place as Fufeng Community, situated between the end of the Central Mountain Range and Beinan River, with the Air Force Zhihang Base located nearby. The original settlement of the village is now the Zhihang Base, and the residents were relocated due to the base's construction. During the Japanese occupation, it was called "Shishan," then renamed "Shichuan" in the 35th year of the Republic of China, and later referred to as "Shishan New Village" and "Fufeng Community." The place name originates from the indiscriminate runoff of rainwater around Shitou Mountain, where the river can easily carry large and small stones downstream, resulting in a riverbed filled with pebbles, including the Shichuan Canal flowing through the Shichuan settlement, hence the name. In Shishan Village, there is a studio called Meihua Mountain Studio, where the workshop leader Huang Meihua is renowned as an indigenous LV weaving expert. When visiting, in addition to appreciating the exquisite weaving works, you can also try your hand at DIY weaving and unleash your creativity. Besides promoting weaving, a youth named Wu Dingbao, who previously lived in Sanyi and engaged in wood carving, has returned to the village to create outstanding pieces using driftwood and Chinese carving techniques. Currently, many large wooden sculptures can be seen standing outside Shishan Village, becoming the best promotion for the village to the outside world. 【Source: Tribal Backpacker Taitung Community Travel Guide】
