Shishan Village Introduction
Fufeng Tribe is located in the narrow gap between Shitou Mountain and Beinan River on the outskirts of Taitung City, also known as Shishan Tribe due to its location beneath Shitou Mountain. Shishan Tribe refers to Fufeng Community, both names signify the same place, situated between the tail end of the Coastal Mountain Range and Beinan River, with the Air Force Chihhang Base right behind it. The original dwelling place of the tribe was at the current Chihhang Base, which was relocated due to the base's construction. During the Japanese rule period, it was called "Shishan," later renamed "Shichuan" in the 35th year of the Republic of China, and subsequently referred to as "Shishan New Village" and "Fufeng Community." The name originates from the rainwater flowing freely around the vicinity of Shitou Mountain, with the river easily carrying large and small stones downstream, resulting in a riverbed filled with stones, and this is also true for the Shichuan Canal passing through the Shichuan settlement. Inside Shishan Tribe, there is a Mei Hua Mountain Studio, run by Huang Meihua, who is hailed as a master of indigenous LV weaving. Here, apart from appreciating exquisite weaving works, you can also try your hand at DIY weaving and unleash your creativity. In addition to promoting weaving, there is also a youth named Wu Dingbao, who previously lived in Sanyi engaged in wood carving, returning to the tribe to create outstanding works using driftwood and Han carving techniques. Now, as you pass by the outside of Shishan Tribe, you can see several large wooden sculptures standing, which have become the tribe's best promotion to the outside world. 【Source: Tribe Backpacker, Fong Taitung, Tribal Travel Guide】
