Shihshan Village Introduction
The Fufeng Village is nestled between the base of Shitou Mountain and the Beinan River on the outskirts of Taitung City, also known as Shishan Village due to its location under Shitou Mountain. Shishan Village refers to the Fufeng Community; both names denote the same place, situated between the eastern foothills of the Central Mountain Range and the Beinan River, with the Air Force Zhi-Hang Base directly behind it. The original settlement was located at what is now the Zhi-Hang Base, but it was relocated due to base construction. During the Japanese occupation, it was referred to as "Shishan," then renamed "Shichuan" in the 35th year of the Republic of China, and later known as "Shishan New Village" and "Fufeng Community." The place name originates from the rainwater that freely flows around Shitou Mountain, easily carrying large and small stones downstream, resulting in a riverbed filled with rocks. This is also true for the Shichuan Irrigation Channel flowing through the Shichuan settlement, hence the name. Within Shishan Village, there is a studio named Meihua Mountain Workshop, run by Huang Meihua, who is acclaimed as an Indigenous LV weaving expert. Here, in addition to appreciating exquisite woven works, visitors can also participate in DIY weaving experiences to unleash their creativity. In addition to promoting weaving, a young man named Wu Dingbao, who previously lived in Sanyi and practiced wood carving, returned to the village to create outstanding works using driftwood and Han carving techniques. Nowadays, as you pass by Shishan Village, you can see many large wood sculptures standing prominently, becoming the village's best promotion to the outside world.
