Shihshan Village Introduction
The Fufeng Tribe is located between Shitou Mountain and the Beinan River at the outskirts of Taitung City, and is also known as Shishan Tribe due to its proximity to Shitou Mountain. Shishan Tribe refers to the Fufeng Community, both designating the same location situated between the end of the Central Mountain Range and the Beinan River, with the Zhihang Air Force Base to the rear. The original residence of the tribe was at the current Zhihang Base, from which they were relocated due to base construction. During the Japanese colonial period, it was referred to as "Shishan," later changed to "Shichuan" in the 35th year of the Republic of China, and afterwards known as "Shishan New Village" and "Fufeng Community." The name originates from the rainwater that freely disperses in the Shitou Mountain area, where the river easily carries large and small stones downstream, resulting in a riverbed filled with stones, including the Shichuan Canal passing through the Shichuan settlement, hence the name. Inside Shishan Tribe, there is a Meihua Mountain Studio, with the workshop leader Huang Meihua recognized as an expert in indigenous weaving, often compared to an LV weaver. Here, in addition to appreciating exquisite woven works, you can also have a DIY experience in weaving and unleash your creativity. In addition to promoting weaving, a young man named Wu Dingbao, who previously lived in Sanyi and engaged in wood carving, has returned to the tribe, utilizing Han carving techniques to create excellent works with driftwood. Today, as you pass outside Shishan Tribe, you can see many large wooden sculptures standing, which have become the tribe's best promotion to the outside world.
