Tropic of Cancer Marker, Jingpu Introduction
The Tropic of Cancer is located at 23.5 degrees North latitude, marking the northern boundary of the sun's direct rays on Earth, as well as the dividing line between subtropical and tropical regions. The Tropic of Cancer monument in Jingpu is situated at the 69-kilometer mark on Provincial Highway 11. Every summer solstice, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west along the white tower. A narrow slit was designed on the coordinate tower to observe this phenomenon, and at noon on the summer solstice, sunlight shines directly through the slit, allowing visitors beside the tower to experience the remarkable phenomenon of having no shadow under the sun.
