Jingpu Tropic of Cancer Marker Introduction
The Tropic of Cancer is located at 23.5 degrees North latitude and marks the northern boundary of the Sun's direct rays on Earth, as well as the division between subtropical and tropical regions. The marker for the Tropic of Cancer in Jingpu is situated at the 69-kilometer point on Taiwan Highway 11. Every year on the summer solstice, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west along the white tower. A narrow slit is designed in the tower to observe this phenomenon, and at noon on the summer solstice, sunlight perfectly shines through the slit, allowing visitors beside the tower to experience the remarkable sight of having no shadows in the sun.
