Tropical Zone Marker at Jingpu Introduction
The Tropic of Cancer is located at 23.5 degrees north latitude, marking the northern limit of the sun's direct rays on Earth and serving as the boundary between subtropical and tropical regions. The Tropic of Cancer monument in Jingpu is located at the 69-kilometer point of Provincial Highway 11. Every year at the summer solstice, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west along the white tower's body. A narrow slit is designed into the monument to observe this phenomenon, and at noon on the summer solstice, sunlight will shine directly into the slit, allowing visitors beside the tower to experience the marvel of having no shadows under the sun.
