Fenglin Principal Dream Factory Introduction
This building, located at No. 16 Minsheng Street, Fenglin, features a striking wooden structure that served as the "Fenglin Branch Office's Governor's Residence" during the Japanese occupation. It was once the residence of Zhang Qilong, the first principal of Fenglin Junior High School. In the early days, many residents of Fenglin devoted themselves to education in Taiwan, serving as principals, with a total exceeding ninety, making it one of the towns with the highest density of elementary school principals in Taiwan, earning it the nickname "Hometown of Principals." As this building fell into disrepair due to lack of occupancy, in order to preserve and commemorate Fenglin's excellent academic culture, local enthusiasts, with government support, renovated the building in 2004, naming it the "Principal Dream Factory." Today, this center offers an open reading space and provides a "living classroom" for students. The "living classroom" refers to education outside of school, aiming to take children beyond textbooks to learn practical knowledge about nature and life. A group of enthusiastic volunteers maintains the environment, designs learning activities, and provides guided tours for visitors. People visiting here can gain a deeper understanding of Fenglin's cultural history while also experiencing the warmth and vitality of Taiwan's communities.
