Diaoyu Island Introduction
Nio Island has a population density second only to Jibei Island, with most residents relying on fishing for their livelihood, showcasing the typical lifestyle of fishing villages in Penghu. Located next to Nio Fishing Port, visitors can enjoy a 180-degree unobstructed view of the natural sea landscape. On the east coast of Nio Island, there are towering basalt columns, and in the northern area, due to the erosion from the northeast monsoon and seawater, one can observe the distinctive onion-shaped weathering of basalt with red gravel, under which volcanic breccia lies, resulting in a magnificent and beautiful landscape. The basalt on the eastern part of the island presents a columnar formation that is quite different from the northern coast. During low tide, a place on the back mountain of Nio Island connects with the southern Gua Island, creating a unique sight known as "sea dry," where the seafloor becomes visible. The area of Nio Island varies greatly between high and low tide, expanding from 0.265 square kilometers at high tide to 1.098 square kilometers during low tide, linking it to the southern Gua Island in the north. From the eastern end of the island to the northern Gua Island and west of Xiao Baisha Island, extending to the southern part of Quzhu Island, there is a vast wave-cut platform with well-developed standard fringing reefs. Pengpeng Sandbar is located southwest of Nio Island, and the newly formed sandbank in the waters north of Yuanbei Island stretches about one thousand meters, being one of the most famous attractions in Penghu. [Recommended stay time] 3 hours or overnight.
