Niao Yu Island Introduction
Baisah Township's Niao Yu has a population density second only to Jibei Island. The residents of Niao Yu primarily rely on fishing for their livelihood, and typical Penghu fishing village life can be seen everywhere. Located next to the Niao Yu fishing port, one can enjoy a 180-degree unobstructed view of the natural sea landscape. The eastern coast of Niao Yu is lined with basalt columns, and in the northern area, due to the effects of the northeast monsoon and seawater erosion, one can observe the onion-shaped weathering of basalt with red gravel, with volcanic breccia at the bottom, creating a magnificent and beautiful landscape. The basalt in the eastern part of the island appears as tall columns, presenting a markedly different scenery from the northern coast. At low tide, the area behind Niao Yu connects with the southern Gua Yu, forming a unique sight known as "sea dry" (where, after the seawater recedes, the seabed becomes visible). The area of Niao Yu changes significantly between high and low tides, ranging from 0.265 square kilometers at high tide to 1.098 square kilometers at low tide, connecting with the southern Gua Yu to the north. From the eastern tip of the island to the southern Gua Yu and west of the small Baisah Island, extending south to the Quzhu Island, there lies a vast wave-cut platform, which has standard fringing reefs developing along its edge. Pengpeng Beach, located to the southwest of Niao Yu and in the northern waters of Yuanbei Island, is a newly formed sandbar about 1,000 meters long, making it one of the most famous attractions in Penghu. [Suggested stay duration] 3 hours or overnight.
