Xiangshan Wetland Introduction
Hsinchu City is home to the largest coastal wetland in Taiwan, the Xiangshan Wetland. Due to the erosive forces of the Touqian River to the north, the Kejia River in the middle, and the Yangan River to the south, a rich accumulation of organic materials is brought to the estuary, resulting in a vibrant ecosystem with abundant species. Additionally, the Xiangshan Beach features an intertidal zone that varies in width from 800 to 2,000 meters and extends for ten kilometers during low tide, interspersed with mangroves. This environment is ideal for habitat for intertidal creatures such as fiddler crabs and mudskippers, thus attracting a significant number of wading birds that feed in this area. Many migratory birds that come to Taiwan for the winter particularly enjoy this rich feeding ground, and rare northern species such as the red-crowned crane, greater white-fronted goose, and black-faced spoonbill have all been spotted here. This place is truly a treasure trove of natural ecology.
