Xiangshan Wetlands Introduction

Hsinchu City is home to the largest coastal wetland in Taiwan—Xiangshan Wetland. Due to the erosion from the Touqian River to the north, the Kejia River in the middle, and the Yangkang River to the south, a rich accumulation of organic matter occurs at the river mouth, creating a vibrant and diverse ecosystem. Additionally, the Xiangshan Beach features an intertidal zone that ranges from 800 to 2000 meters wide and 10 kilometers long during low and high tides, with mangroves scattered throughout. This area is particularly suitable for intertidal creatures such as fiddler crabs and mudskippers, attracting a significant number of wading birds. Each winter, large flocks of migratory birds come to Taiwan for the season, and they particularly enjoy feeding here. Even rare northern bird species like the red-crowned crane, greater white-fronted goose, and bean goose have been spotted here! This place can be considered a treasure trove of natural ecology.
