Xiangshan Wetlands Introduction
Hsinchu City boasts the largest coastal wetland in Taiwan—Xiangshan Wetland. Due to the erosion from the north by the Touqian River, the middle by the Kejia River, and to the south by the Yanguang River, rich organic materials accumulate at the estuary, creating a vibrant and diverse ecosystem. Additionally, the Xiangshan Beach forms an intertidal zone ranging from 800 to 2,000 meters in width and 10 kilometers in length during the ebb and flow of the tide. This area, dotted with mangroves, provides an ideal habitat for intertidal organisms such as fiddler crabs and mudskippers. As a result, it attracts a considerable number of wading birds that come here to forage. Every winter, a large number of migratory birds that visit Taiwan find this place particularly enjoyable. Even rare northern bird species, such as the red-crowned crane, wild goose, and barnacle goose, have made appearances here! This place can be regarded as a treasure trove of natural ecology.
