Shimen Lover's Temple Introduction
Located above the Fuchi Fishing Port in Shimen District, New Taipei City, the main deity worshipped here is the Tibetan Love and Desire Buddha. On both sides of the main temple are a pair of intertwined trees known as the Couple Trees. Every weekend and holiday, many visitors come to pray for love and family harmony. The origin of the Love Temple comes from two old banyan trees on the temple grounds, known as Old Tree Grandpa and Old Tree Grandma. Although they stand on either side of the main temple, their branches are intertwined, creating a remarkable sight, and they are referred to by devotees as the Couple Trees or Lover Trees. After the establishment of the Love Temple, the old temple master Jiang Zhengyi discussed matters with metaphysics expert Wang Luojiong and decided to invite the Love and Desire Buddha "Guru Gu Liye Fo Mu" from Tibet. In Tibetan Buddhism, the goddess oversees love, marital relationships, family safety, giving birth to children, proper wealth, career, and education, and is also referred to as the God of Couples and the God of Love. The goddess is depicted holding a bow and arrow of love in one hand and a love rope in the other, which is a unique characteristic. Generally, it is not suitable for couples or spouses to visit a Love Temple together, but this is not a concern at the Shimen Love Temple.
