Shimen Lover's Temple Introduction
Located above Fugi Fishing Port in Shimen District, New Taipei City, the main deity worshipped here is the Tibetan Love Wish-Fulfilling Buddha. On both sides of the main temple, there stands a pair of intertwined couple trees. Every weekend, countless visitors come to seek blessings for love and family harmony. The origin of the Lover's Temple stems from the two ancient banyan trees beside it—Old Tree Grandpa and Old Tree Grandma. Although they are located on either side of the main temple, their branches are intricately intertwined, creating a fascinating sight. Worshippers refer to them as the couple trees or lover trees. After the construction of the Lover's Temple, Old Temple Grandpa Jiang Zhengyi discussed with metaphysics expert Wang Luojiao and decided to invite the Love Wish-Fulfilling Buddha, "Gulu Gulei Buddha Mother," from Tibet in Mainland China for worship. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Buddha Mother is responsible for love relationships, marital harmony, family safety, childbirth, wealth, career, and academic success, and is also referred to as the Couple Deity and Love Deity. The distinctive feature of the Buddha Mother is that she holds a love relationship bow and arrow in one hand and a love rope in the other. Generally, it is not suitable for couples or spouses to visit a Lover's Temple together, but this is not a concern at Shimen Lover's Temple.
