Xindian Ferry Terminal Introduction
The ferry at Xindian River began in the seventh year of the Guangxu era (1881). There are nine ferry crossings from the upper to the middle reaches of Xindian River, with Xindian Ferry being the only remaining manual ferry crossing today. In the early years, Xindian Ferry served as the sole transportation hub for accessing the mountainous areas of Wantan, Jit'an, Tutan, and Quchi. Over time, as roads were gradually opened, this area transformed into a popular leisure and sightseeing spot during weekends. Residents and tourists taking the ferry to Wantan can enjoy not only a nostalgic experience but also the beautiful scenery of Bitan, relishing the joy of leisurely boating along the riverside. Before the roads were opened, some residents relied on the ferry as their main means of transportation. At that time, nine ferry crossings were established along the river but gradually fell into disuse as land transport improved. However, the "Xindian Ferry Crossing," which connects Wantan and Xindian Street, is currently the only remaining manual ferry crossing along the river, and after hundreds of years, it continues to operate between Xindian and Wantan.
