Wuqiu Tourist Fishing Port Introduction
Wuqih Fishing Port is the first mechanized fishing boat port in Taichung City, constructed to develop the fishing industry in central Taiwan and in conjunction with the planning of Taichung Port. The total area of the water and land is approximately sixty hectares, and the planned fishing area within the port can accommodate three hundred fishing boats under fifty tons. Wuqih Fishing Port is located along the western coast of Taiwan, specifically in the central waters of the Taiwan Strait. The tidal conditions are greatly influenced by the Pacific Ocean currents; during high tide, seawater flows into the Taiwan Strait from both the north and south ends, causing water levels to rise in the central region. During low tide, seawater recedes to both sides, resulting in a significant tidal difference, with an average drop of about 4.5 meters. The seabed topography is flat, and during low tide, a sandy beach extending three to four kilometers can be exposed, offering a dynamic landscape and rich marine ecology. Fishermen mainly engage in coastal gillnet fishing and shallow-water aquaculture. Due to the effective implementation of recreational fishing policies, Wuqih Fishing Port has transformed into a comprehensive recreational fishing port that integrates production, sales, tourism, and entertainment. Looking ahead, with the support of various levels of government, the primary goal is to enhance the automation equipment of the fish market, aiming to develop Wuqih Fishing Port into a fisherman's wharf with an Eastern character that stands out internationally, reaching new heights.
