Wuqiu Port Tourism Fishing Market Introduction
Wuchi Fishing Port is the first mechanized fishing port in Taichung City, established to develop the fishing industry in Central Taiwan, in accordance with the planning of Taichung Port. The area includes both water and land totaling sixty hectares, with a designated fishing zone within the port capable of accommodating three hundred fishing vessels under fifty tons. Wuchi Fishing Port is located approximately on the western coast of Taiwan, in the central region of the Taiwan Strait, where the tidal range is greatly influenced by Pacific Ocean currents. During high tide, water flows into the Taiwan Strait from both the northern and southern ends, causing the water level to rise in the central area, and during low tide, the water recedes to both sides, resulting in a noticeable tidal difference, with an average variation of about 4.5 meters. The seabed is relatively flat, and at low tide, sandy beaches up to three to four kilometers long are exposed, creating a diverse landscape and rich marine ecology. Fishermen primarily engage in coastal drift gill net fishing and shallow sea aquaculture. Due to the effective implementation of leisure fishing policies, Wuchi Fishing Port has transformed into a comprehensive recreational fishing port that integrates production, sales, tourism, and entertainment. In the future, with support from government agencies at all levels, the primary goal will be to enhance the automation of the fish market facilities, with hopes of developing Wuchi Fishing Port into a fisherman’s wharf with Eastern characteristics that stands out internationally, reaching new heights.
