Wuchi Fishing Port Introduction
Wuchi Fishing Port is the first mechanized fishing port in Taichung City, built to develop the fishing industry in central Taiwan and in conjunction with the planning of Taichung Port. The water and land area totals sixty hectares, and the designated fishing area within the port can accommodate three hundred fishing boats under fifty tons. Wuchi Fishing Port is located approximately on the western coast of Taiwan, specifically in the central waters of the Taiwan Strait, where tidal movements are significantly influenced by the Pacific Ocean currents. During high tide, water flows into the Taiwan Strait from both the northern and southern ends, meeting in the central area and causing a rise in water levels. During low tide, the water recedes to both sides, resulting in a noticeable tidal difference, with an average drop of about 4.5 meters. The seabed topography is flat, revealing sandy beaches of up to three to four kilometers during low tide, showcasing varied landscapes and rich marine ecology. Fishermen primarily engage in coastal gillnet fishing and shallow sea aquaculture. Wuchi Fishing Port has effectively promoted recreational fishery policies and has transformed into a comprehensive recreational fishing port that integrates production, sales, tourism, and entertainment. Moving forward, with the guidance of various levels of government, the primary goal is to enhance the automation of fish market facilities, aiming to develop Wuchi Fishing Port into an Eastern-style, internationally prominent fishing harbor, reaching new heights.
