Gaomei Wetlands Visitor Center & Sunset Camping Site (Camping Site Suspended) Introduction
Slowly Sunset Camping Site is temporarily closed. Enjoy the following attractions: ◼️ Ecological Experience Center - Circular Theater, Interactive Experience Zone, and Ecological Education Center ◼️ Admire the Gaomei Sunset and Wind Turbines, Stargazing at Night. To prevent large crowds and vehicles from damaging the local landscape and ecology, the Construction Bureau of Taichung City Government spent over two years building the "Gaomei Wetland Visitor Service Center." Covering an area of approximately 8.4 hectares, the center features a visitor service center and two parking lots (Parking Lot 68 and 69) accommodating 27 large buses, 568 small cars, and 205 motorcycles. The visitor service center is a two-story building with a sloped design, resembling waves rising from the ground. The second floor has an observation deck to view the Gaomei sunset and wind turbines, making it also suitable for stargazing at night; the outdoor plaza features crab and shell-shaped installation art and an outdoor ecological pond for visitors to photograph and observe wetland ecology up close. In addition to providing travel information and guided services, an "Ecological Experience Center" is planned for visitors to gain more comprehensive and profound knowledge about wetlands and ecology. The visitor service center also includes dining areas and a creative products section, and regularly hosts concerts, ecology lectures, and various activities, offering a comfortable and convenient experience for visitors. Attraction Highlights: The Ecological Experience Center inside the visitor center comprises a circular theater, an interactive experience zone, and an ecological education center. As you step into the circular theater, you can feel the impact of the 360-degree projection. The theater showcases the beauty of Gaomei Wetland throughout the four seasons and times of day, each scene vividly illustrating the unique magical landscape of Gaomei Wetland. In the interactive experience zone, the "Wetland Knowledge Wall" at the entrance provides an overview of global wetlands and migratory paths of migratory birds; then, visitors can learn about the development history of Gaomei Wetland and the plants and animals that inhabit it. Notably, technology allows visitors to experience the Gaomei sunset even on cloudy days with the "Gaomei Tides"; the "Wetland Plants," "Dancing Crabs," and "Soaring High" games are particularly popular with children, using interactive game designs to enhance kids' impressions of wetland ecology. Visitors can also leave exclusive photos together with friends and family at the "Gaomei Memory Wall." The ecological education center at the exit regularly organizes various ecological lectures and activities. The Ecological Experience Center aims to convey correct wetland knowledge through diverse methods, hoping to plant the seed of “Wetland sustainable use needs your protection” in visitors' hearts. In response to the unique natural environment, the Slowly Sunset Camping Site, located 20 meters from the coastline, offers an overnight stay with meals, combined with rich resources around the Gaomei Wetland Visitor Service Center. It provides ecological experience courses to gain an understanding of blue carbon ecosystems. Utilizing fresh ingredients sourced locally, the "Tidal Island Restaurant" on the second floor of the visitor service center offers unbeatable sea views along with the "Slightly Tipsy Sunset" vegetarian bistro on the first floor, serving creatively local dishes, creating a luxurious camping place best suited for family and child-friendly trips.
