Lishui Fishing Port Introduction
Lishui Fishing Port, located in the southwesternmost part of Taichung's Longjing District, is an excellent place to enjoy bird watching at sunset and cycling by the sea. Originally a century-old fishing port, it has gradually declined due to the impact of the nearby thermal power plant, with very few fishing boats visiting and only a handful of dinghies remaining. Ingeniously, the abandoned coast guard station on the embankment was transformed into a scenic viewpoint with a Greek-style blue and white theme, complemented by nearby cycling paths. This location has become a perfect spot for newlyweds to take wedding photos, enjoy sunset views, and go cycling by the sea. As one of the six major fishing ports in the Greater Taichung area, Lishui Fishing Port was originally built during the Qing Dynasty in the Qianlong era, adjacent to the Dadu River estuary, providing a resource-rich tidal ecosystem. During low tide, one can see small crabs and various organisms in the mudflats. From October to May each year is the main bird watching season, where diverse bird species can be observed. Near sunset, the evening glow casts a beautiful light on the ocean’s surface, with the natural beauty of the sunset rivaling that of the Gaomei Wetlands, attracting many photography enthusiasts who come to enjoy and capture the scene, savoring leisurely moments. The observation platform on the embankment features a Mediterranean-style blue and white architectural design reminiscent of Greece, adorned with arches, fan windows, bells, and heart-shaped railings, creating a strong foreign romantic atmosphere. This quaint little fishing village in Lishui is particularly refreshing, making it popular among tourists who come to take photos at the viewing platform or leisurely ride bicycles along the coast in the gentle breeze, enjoying the sunset and the sea. As a result, the once sparsely populated Lishui Fishing Port has the chance to regain its former glory.
