Xueziwei Sea Cave Platform Introduction
Located between the Xiaoqi Jiao and the Chi Ma area in Xi Yu Township, Xue Zai Wei reveals a wide intertidal zone and rocky terrain during low tide, exposing a vast landscape where one can find numerous intertidal organisms like shells on the wave-eroded platform. There is also a large sandy beach nearby, and the wave-eroded platform of Xue Zai Wei is one of the natural secrets of Penghu. The Xiaoxi and Xue Zai Wei areas in Xi Yu Township are primarily composed of silicic basalt terrain, featuring not only basalts with columnar joints but also abundant small craters and flat volcanic cones. Scholars speculate that the Xue Zai Wei wave-eroded platform was originally formed from a vast lava lake in a large flat volcanic crater. Through the process of wave erosion, the sea cliffs have gradually receded, forming a flat rock platform that is nearly at the same height as the sea surface, dotted with small low volcanic craters or vents, along with tidal pools and pot holes created by seawater erosion. In addition to the unique topography created by volcanic and marine erosion, the Xue Zai Wei wave-eroded platform has a vast intertidal zone. The intertidal zone in the waters of Penghu is broad and geologically diverse; when the tide rises, the seawater covers the area and when it recedes, the landform is exposed. The alternating wet and dry conditions of the tidal seawater, combined with the ample sunlight in Penghu, result in a rich and diverse range of intertidal life. During low tide on the Xue Zai Wei wave-eroded platform, local residents can be seen collecting shells, and other creatures such as hermit crabs and black sea cucumbers can also be spotted. At high tide, the seawater inundates the wave-eroded platform, making the adjacent raised reef area appear as a small island connected by coral debris. During low tide, this raised reef area is a paradise for anglers, as the underwater terrain is complex and deep, often harboring a wealth of aquatic flora and fauna, making it an excellent spot for fish to forage and spawn, thus providing abundant fish resources. In this remote area of Xue Zai Wei, besides experiencing the unique wave-eroded platform and the rich biodiversity of the intertidal zone, it is also a great spot to observe the waves. Strolling along the nearby sandy beach, enjoying the endless views of the sea and sky, it feels as if the world consists only of the sound of the tides and one's own heartbeat, allowing one to momentarily forget the worries of the mundane world. 【Recommended Stay Duration】1 hour
