Xueziwei Sea Erosion Platform Introduction
Located between Xiao Chi Jiao and Chi Ma areas in Xiyu Township, Xue Zai Wei reveals a wide intertidal zone and rocky terrain during low tide, with a large number of intertidal organisms such as mollusks found on the wave-cut platform; beside it, there is a vast beach. The Xue Zai Wei wave-cut platform is one of the natural secrets of Penghu. The area of Chi Xi and Xue Zai Wei in Xiyu Township primarily consists of silicic basalt terrain, featuring not only basalt columnar joints but also small craters and low-lying volcanic craters. Scholars speculate that the Xue Zai Wei wave-cut platform was originally formed by a large, low-lying volcanic crater lava lake, and through the process of marine erosion, waves eroded the cliffs, causing them to gradually recede and create a flat rock platform almost at sea level, scattered with small low-lying craters or gas vents, as well as tidal pools and pot-holes formed by sea erosion. In addition to the unique terrain formed by volcanic and marine erosion, the Xue Zai Wei wave-cut platform also possesses a vast intertidal zone. The intertidal zone of Penghu's waters is wide and geologically diverse, covered by seawater during high tide and revealing landforms during low tide. With the alternation of tidal seawater and ample sunshine in Penghu, the intertidal organisms are diverse and thriving. The Xue Zai Wei wave-cut platform has an extremely expansive intertidal zone, where local residents can be seen gathering mollusks during low tide, along with sightings of hermit crabs, black sea cucumbers, and other organisms. During high tide, seawater inundates the wave-cut platform, and the raised rocky area nearby appears as a solitary island, forming a small land connection of coral debris. During low tide, this elevated rocky area is a paradise for anglers, as its underwater topography is complex and deep, often harboring a rich variety of aquatic plants and animals, making it an excellent place for fish to forage and spawn, thus abundant in fish resources. Visiting the seldom-seen Xue Zai Wei offers the chance to experience the unique wave-cut platform terrain and the rich biodiversity of the intertidal zone. This location is also a spot for wave-watching; strolling along the nearby beach while admiring the endless sea and sky, it seems that the world is left with only the sounds of the tides and one's own heartbeat, allowing a tranquil escape from worldly worries. 【Recommended Stay Duration】1 hour
