Jiangmei Coast Observation Post Introduction
Located in Jiangmei Village, Baisha Township, Penghu, there is a mysterious sea watchtower beside Pingzhi Islet. A simple square cabin stands in the middle of the sea, connected to Jiangmei Fishing Port by a cement path that is about 300 meters long, which can be seen during low tide. At high tide, the cement path is submerged, becoming intermittently visible with the ebb and flow of the sea, turning the watchtower into an island. It is said that before the Chiayi Yong'an Bridge was built, land transportation between Baisha Township and Huxi Township had to pass through this area, and residents needed to pay attention to tidal times to cross when the tide was low. During the initial period after the restoration of Taiwan, due to political sensitivity, this watchtower was established for soldiers to check residents' identification. As transportation infrastructure improved over time, the watchtower lost its function, and by the 1950s, the originally stationed coastal defense forces had withdrawn, leaving the watchtower standing alone in the sea. In recent years, there has been a trend of secret spots in Penghu, and this location has become a popular photo-taking spot. However, as this secret spot changes appearance with the tides, visitors must pay attention to tidal times to capture the best photos and also be cautious when approaching the watchtower, as the tides can change rapidly, potentially leading to being stranded during high tide. 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours.
