Gangzi Old Banyan Tree Introduction
The Old Banyan Tree in Gangzi is located in Gangzi Village, Baisha Township, Penghu, along Route 203, near the entrance to the Penghu Aquarium, right next to the Baoding Temple. In addition to the ancient banyan tree of Tongliang, on the way to the northern ring road, just before entering the Penghu Aquarium, there is a banyan forest here that holds great stories. The Old Banyan Tree in Gangzi is flanked by one tree on each side of the Baoding Temple, providing a broad shade. Due to the strong northeast monsoons in Penghu, the trees do not grow tall but rather spread wide. The banyan trees' aerial roots intertwine and climb along the concrete supports, creating a lush canopy. The aerial roots descend deep into the ground, growing into new pillars, gradually forming a natural sunshade. Under the large trees, there are benches and recliners, making it a great spot for chatting and cooling off. Travelers passing by can take a break and offer prayers here. This banyan tree was likely planted during the Qing Dynasty and is over a hundred years old, making it the second oldest banyan tree in Penghu. With one tree on each side, it is also called the "Lover's Tree." The two banyan trees embrace the temple, as if shielding Baoding Temple from the wind and rain. This location is also a popular spot for elderly villagers to play chess, children to frolic, and people to engage in casual conversations. [Recommended stay time] 0.5 hours.
The banyan trees are lush and their branches resemble the protective structure of Baoding Temple.
