Old Banyan Tree of Gangzi Introduction
The Gangzi Old Banyan Trees are located in Gangzi Village, Baisha, Penghu, on Route 203, near the intersection leading to the Penghu Aquarium, right by the Baoding Temple courtyard. In addition to the ancient banyan tree at Tongliang, on the way to the northern loop before reaching the Penghu Aquarium, there is also a banyan forest here that has many stories. There is one Banyan tree on each side of the Baoding Temple, providing a broad shade. Due to the strong northeast monsoon in Penghu, the trees rarely grow tall, spreading out instead; the banyan's aerial roots are intertwined, climbing up the concrete support, creating a dense canopy. The aerial roots descend deep into the soil, growing into new pillars, which over time form a natural sunshade. Beneath the large trees, there are reclining chairs, making it a great spot for chatting and relaxing. Travelers can rest and worship here during their journey. This banyan tree is estimated to have been planted during the Qing Dynasty, and it is now over a hundred years old, making it the second oldest banyan tree in Penghu. Since there is one on each side, it is also known as the Lovers' Tree. The two banyan trees embrace the temple, seemingly protecting Baoding Temple from wind and rain, making this a good place for local elders to play chess, children to frolic, and neighbors to chat. 【Suggested time to stay】 0.5 hours
The banyan trees are lush and climbing, resembling the protective structure of the Baoding Temple.
