Gangzi Old Banyan Tree Introduction
The Port Old Banyan Tree is located in Gangzi Village, Baisha Township, Penghu, along Route 203, near the entrance to the Penghu Aquarium, right at the Boding Temple courtyard. In addition to the ancient banyan trees in Tongliang, there are also stories within the banyan forest on the way north. The Port Old Banyan Trees are situated on both sides of Boding Temple, providing ample shade. Due to the strong northeast monsoon in Penghu, trees generally do not grow tall here, which causes them to spread out sideways instead; the banyan trees' aerial roots are intricately intertwined, climbing on cement supports, creating a dense cover. These aerial roots extend deep into the ground, growing into new pillars, and over time, they have formed a natural sunshade. Underneath the big trees, there are cool benches and lounge chairs, making it a great spot to chat and relax. Travelers can take a break and pay their respects here. This banyan tree is believed to have been planted during the Qing Dynasty and has been standing for over a hundred years, making it the second oldest banyan tree in Penghu. Because there are two trees, they are also referred to as "lover trees." The two banyan trees embrace the temple, as if shielding Boding Temple from wind and rain. This spot is also ideal for village elders playing chess, children playing, and locals chatting. 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours.
