Kangzi Old Banyan Tree Introduction
The Old Banyan Trees at Gangzi are located in Gangzi Village, Baisha Township, Penghu, along Route 203, near the entrance to the Penghu Aquarium, right next to the Baoding Temple courtyard. Besides the ancient banyan tree, on the way north around the island, before turning to the Penghu Aquarium, the banyan grove here also has its own stories. There is a banyan tree on each side of Baoding Temple, with broad canopies. Due to the strong northeast monsoon in Penghu, the trees do not grow tall, but rather spread out to the sides; the banyan tree’s aerial roots are intertwined and climb on the concrete supports, creating a dense canopy. The aerial roots descend deep into the ground, developing into new pillars over time, forming a natural shade barrier. Under the large trees, there are benches and lounge chairs, making it a great place for chatting and relaxing. Visitors can stop here for a rest and to pay their respects during their journey. This banyan tree is believed to have been planted during the Qing Dynasty and is over a century old, making it the second oldest banyan tree in Penghu. As there are two banyan trees on either side, it is also known as the "Lovers' Tree." The two banyan trees embrace the temple as if shielding Baoding Temple from wind and rain. This location is also a common gathering place for the village's elderly to play chess, children to play, and for people to chat casually. 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours
