Wenshan Civic Center Introduction
Originally a long-unused and dilapidated principal's residence of Mu Zha Elementary School, it has been renovated into an elegant building that blends Japanese simplicity with modernity, symbolizing the connection between tradition and progress. The establishment of Wenshan Civic Center has a challenging history; it began with a coordination meeting in May 1999 regarding the land proposal for the center. Through multiple discussions involving community planners, representatives from civic organizations, parents from schools, and local residents in workshops and public hearings, a consensus was reached on the planning and redevelopment, leading to the groundbreaking ceremony in 2002 and the grand opening on October 19, marking the transformation of this finely crafted Japanese-style building, constructed in 1927, into a new hub for local cultural heritage and community awareness. Mu Zha Elementary School, founded in 1914, was initially a branch school of Jingwei Public School. Principal Liu Shanming, who became the second principal in 1946, was known for his rigorous management and involvement in local public affairs. He nurtured countless talents and was deeply respected in the Mu Zha community. After retiring in 1969, he passed away in 1982, while his wife continued to live in the principal's residence full of memories until her death in 1992, after which the old principal's residence was left unused. The Civic Center is located directly across from the administrative center of Wenshan District, adjacent to Mu Zha Elementary School. It has an area of 636 square meters and includes services such as a reception desk, auditorium, outdoor plaza, and multi-purpose outdoor square, which can be utilized for teaching, public art, tree classrooms, and diverse exhibition spaces, embodying local cultural and human values. The new building of the Civic Center is a two-story structure showcasing the district's history, development, historical photographs, and local industry features. To enhance the quality of cultural life, it regularly invites artists, cultural workers, and community groups to hold various artistic exhibitions on the first and second floors, and also offers rental services. The old building has been renovated to provide exhibition space and is available for individuals and groups to host discussions, reading groups, and other scholarly activities. Wenshan is a great place with rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty. Visiting the elegant Civic Center allows one to explore Wenshan's past and present, as well as experience the beauty of a historically significant building. We warmly welcome all citizens to visit!
