FreeS Art Space Introduction
The Taiwan Visual Arts Association (Visual Union) and Hantu Society (1998) have, in recent years, been like a group of nomadic tribes riding horseback, without a base and unrestrained. Driven by their ambition for art, they have waged battles in museums, galleries, and art spaces both domestically and internationally, while also working to develop, integrate, and supervise the existing resources in the visual arts environment. Now, they are facing a moment of change; it is time for the nomadic tribes to settle down. We have made a forward-looking decision together—to "have our own home" and continue to strive for the artistic environment. "Having our own home" is just the beginning and requires everyone's support to grow, continuously working for the visual arts environment, and writing a more ambitious new chapter in history in the future. The space has been co-named by Hantu Society and Visual Union as "FreeS Art Space." This can be interpreted diversely as "the soul, space and studio that is freely shared... etc." Hantu Society and Visual Union will uphold their original intention of serving art citizens and giving back to the art environment. In addition to their own planning for the exhibition space, they will open most of the schedule for artists and curators to apply. It is hoped that through this space, more innovative art and exhibition ideas can be presented, and that the interface of the exhibition space can promote the new generation of artists in Taiwan to engage in in-depth exploration of art, open up artistic perspectives, and foster a creative atmosphere, thereby expanding the dialogue and exchange in art.
