FreeS Art Space Introduction
The Taiwan Visual Arts Association (Vision Alliance) and Hantu Society (founded in 1998) have, over the past few years, been like a group of nomadic tribes riding on horseback—rootless and unrestrained. Driven by their ambition for art, they have fought battles in domestic and international museums, galleries, and art spaces, while also dedicated to developing, integrating, and supervising the existing resources in the visual art environment. Now, they are facing a moment of change; it is time for these nomads to settle down. They have made a forward-looking decision together—to "have their own home" to continue working for the art environment. "Having their own home" is just a beginning and requires everyone's assistance to grow, as they strive for continuous effort in the visual arts environment, aiming to write new historical chapters in the future. The space has been co-named "FreeS Art Space" by Hantu Society and Vision Alliance, which can be interpreted in various ways as "a shared spirit, space, and studio of freedom." Hantu Society and Vision Alliance will uphold their initial intention of serving art citizens and giving back to the art environment. Besides the programs planned by Hantu Society and Vision Alliance themselves, the majority of the schedule will be open for artists and curators to apply. They hope that through this space, more innovative art and exhibition ideas can be presented, and they aspire that the exhibition space can promote a deeper exploration of art by the new generation of artists in Taiwan, broaden artistic perspectives and creative atmosphere, thereby expanding the dialogue and exchange in art.
