Gongguan Waterfront Plaza Introduction
Gongguan Riverside Plaza is a recreational area near the Xindian River in Taipei City, and it serves as a historically significant water source that dates back a century. It is unique for having the only stretch of riverfront without levees, providing a scenic space for the public to relax and enjoy riverside views. It is one of the few recreational areas in the city that operates 24 hours a day: in the morning, it attracts people for exercise, tai chi, jogging, and cycling, with a bicycle rental station available for tourists to enjoy biking along the riverside bike path. In the evenings, there are international food stalls and stylish bars, with free live band performances every Friday night, accompanied by riverside dining, making it a rare outdoor bar area in Taipei. On the south side of the plaza, there is PIPE Live Music, transformed from the city-designated historical site "Hunsui Water Pumping Station." After ten years of planning and operation, it has become a successful example of repurposing a pumping station into a music performance space. PIPE hosts over 300 music events each year, serving as the first stage for many well-known Taiwanese bands and a starting point for young people to learn skills in lighting and audio technology. The plaza regularly holds markets on weekends, focusing on youth cultural and creative products, along with live DJ performances, inviting everyone to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the market and a feast of music.
