Dapeng Bay International Recreational Zone Introduction
Dapeng Bay was a military seaplane base during the Japanese colonial period, bearing witness to the historical traces of the Kamikaze squadron. Over different periods, it has been known by various names, including Biexing Harbor, Nanping Harbor, and Datian, ultimately becoming Dapeng Bay, each with its unique meanings and significance. Since the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications entrusted the management and development of Dapeng Bay to the private sector in 2004, the Dapeng Bay International Development Co., Ltd. has overseen its overall development, naming the overall area Dapeng Bay International Leisure Zone based on its unique development characteristics and vision. With its rich natural resources and cultural history, Dapeng Bay’s development plan spans three major recreational themes: land, sea, and air. It boasts an extensive area, Taiwan's best marine base, and aerial activity zones, making Dapeng Bay a unique and outstanding site in Taiwan. Currently, the area includes a variety of tourism resources and experience activities, such as Taiwan's first legal ultralight flight club, which offers visitors ultralight flight experiences, short-term flight training, and certification courses. Approved by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, it allows for point-to-point flights. The ultralight flight experience is not limited to the Dapeng Bay airspace but extends to the Pingtung Sai Jia Aviation Park, with a north-south flight distance of about 40 kilometers. Along the route, participants can enjoy views of mountains, rivers, and pastoral landscapes, allowing aviation enthusiasts to relish the skies. The leisure zone also features a coastal cycling center that offers bike rentals for exploring the 12-kilometer coastal cycling path, along with a diverse range of exciting water activities, including lake ecological tourism, canoeing, windsurfing, and rowing. The total investment for the future development by Dapeng Bay International Development Co., Ltd. is estimated to exceed NT$10.34 billion, covering an area of over 257 hectares, with a phased approach to constructing this scenic area. The first phase will involve an investment of more than NT$2 billion and is currently underway with various construction projects, including Taiwan's first international G2 racetrack, a go-kart track, a luxury international hotel, a themed shopping street, group camping areas, and a cultural and historical museum. More firsts for Taiwan will soon be showcased at Dapeng Bay.
