Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Introduction
Dapeng Bay served as a military seaplane base during the Japanese colonial period, recording the historical traces of the Kamikaze troops. Throughout different eras, it has been known by various names, including Biexing Harbor, Nanping Harbor, Datan, and ultimately Dapeng Bay, each carrying its own unique significance. Since the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications entrusted the management and development of Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area to the private sector in 2004, Dapeng Bay International Development Co., Ltd. has been responsible for overall development. The development, based on the features and vision of Dapeng Bay, is collectively referred to as the Dapeng Bay International Leisure Zone. With rich natural resources and historical culture, the development plan encompasses three major themes of land, sea, and air recreational activities, boasting extensive land area, Taiwan's best marine base, and an aerial activity zone. These unique natural conditions make Dapeng Bay a one-of-a-kind paradise in Taiwan. Currently, the park includes a diverse array of tourism resources and experiential activities, including Taiwan's first legally established light aircraft flying club, offering visitors opportunities for light aircraft flight experiences, short-term flight training, and licensing examination training. This has been approved by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, allowing for point-to-point flights. The light aircraft flying experience is not limited to the Dapeng Bay airspace and extends to Pingtung Saijia Aviation Park. The north-south journey is about 40 kilometers, providing breathtaking views of mountains, rivers, and pastoral beauty, allowing aviation enthusiasts to fully enjoy the skies. The leisure zone also features a bay-side bicycle center, offering bike rentals for a scenic ride around the 12-kilometer bay cycling path, along with a variety of exciting water activities, including ecological lake tours, kayaking, windsurfing, and rowing, among other comprehensive activities. The future total investment by Dapeng Bay International Development Company is expected to exceed NT$ 10.34 billion, with a development area of over 257 hectares, implementing a phased approach for the construction of the scenic area. The first phase has an investment exceeding NT$ 2 billion, and various construction projects are currently underway, including Taiwan's first international G2 racetrack that has sparked conversations among car enthusiasts, a Go-Kart racing track, international tourism hotels, a themed shopping street, group camping areas, a cultural and historical museum, and more firsts for Taiwan that will be showcased in Dapeng Bay.
