Dapeng Bay International Resort Area Introduction
Dapeng Bay was a military seaplane base during the Japanese colonial period, marking the historical traces of the Kamikaze unit of the Japanese Army. Throughout different historical periods, it has been known by various unique names, from Biexing Harbor, Nanping Harbor, and Datan to its final name, Dapeng Bay. Since the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications entrusted the management of Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area to the private sector in 2004, the Dapeng Bay International Development Corporation has been responsible for its overall development, naming the entire development zone the Dapeng Bay International Leisure Special Zone based on the unique features and vision of Dapeng Bay. With its rich natural resources and historical culture, the development plan encompasses three major leisure themes across land, sea, and air domains, featuring a vast area, Taiwan's best marine base, and an aerial activity zone. These distinctive natural conditions make Dapeng Bay a unique and superior destination in Taiwan. Currently, the area includes diverse tourism resources and experiential activities, including the country's first legal ultralight aircraft flying club, offering visitors ultralight flight experiences and short-term flight training courses that have been approved by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, allowing for point-to-point flights. The ultralight flying experience is not limited to the airspace of Dapeng Bay but extends to Pingtung Sai Gua Aviation Park. The round-trip journey of approximately 40 kilometers offers breathtaking views of mountains, rivers, and picturesque rural scenery, allowing aviation enthusiasts to enjoy soaring in the skies. The Leisure Special Zone also features a biking center that provides bicycle rentals for touring the 12-kilometer scenic biking trail around the bay, along with a variety of rich and exciting water activities, including eco-tourism on the lake, kayaking, windsurfing, and rowing among various comprehensive activities. The future total investment by Dapeng Bay International Development Company is expected to exceed NT$10.34 billion, with a development area of over 257 hectares. The scenic area will be developed in phases, with the first phase involving a total investment of over NT$2 billion, and construction continues on various projects, including Taiwan's first international G2 racetrack, a Go-Kart racetrack, international hotels, a themed shopping street, group camping areas, and cultural and historical museums. More Taiwan-firsts will be unveiled in Dapeng Bay.
