Church of God Introduction
Donggang Catholic Church was established in 1955 by Father Dengming Lin of the Dominican Province. The original site was at the current Xinjhi Junior High School's early education building. In 1960, it moved to Zhongshan Road. The church features a modern architectural style, with a slanted roof design inspired by the tents that the faithful lived in during their long exodus from Egypt, with the pointed edges reaching towards the sky, symbolizing the way to heaven. The construction funds for the church did not come from Taiwan; they were all donations from the Dominican Order abroad. When the church was first established, due to language differences, the priest used both Mandarin and Taiwanese to deliver sermons, which added an interesting aspect to the mission work compared to other places. The church is also associated with Xinjhi Junior High School, Sacred Family Kindergarten, and Xiaoyai Nursing Home, benefiting the residents of Donggang. After nearly half a century, Donggang Catholic Church has become a new landmark in Donggang.
