Catholic Church Introduction
The Donggang Catholic Church was established in 1955 by Father Lin Deming, a member of the Order of Preachers. The original location was at the current site of the Xinji Junior High School Early Childhood Education Building. In 1960, it was relocated to Zhongshan Road. The church features a modern architectural style with a sloped roof inspired by the tents used by the faithful during their exodus from Egypt, with the slanted tips pointing towards the sky, symbolizing the journey to heaven. The funding for the church's construction did not come from Taiwan but was entirely donated by the Order of Preachers from abroad. Initially, due to language differences, the sermons were conducted in both Mandarin and Taiwanese, a unique aspect compared to other missionary work. The church also operates Xinji Junior High School, Sacred Family Kindergarten, and Xiaoyai Nursing Home, benefiting the residents of Donggang. After nearly half a century, the Donggang Catholic Church has become a new landmark in Donggang.
