Catholic Church Introduction
The Donggang Catholic Church was established in 1955 by Father Lin De-Ming from the Dominican Order's Taiwan Province, originally located at the site of the current Xinji Junior High School's Child Care Building. In 1960, it relocated to Zhongshan Road. The church features a unique modern architectural style, with a slanted roof design inspired by the tents the faithful relied on during their long journey out of Egypt, symbolizing guidance towards heaven with its apex pointing skyward. The funds for the construction of the church did not come from Taiwan but were donated by the Dominican Order from abroad. Initially, due to language differences, the priest delivered sermons in both Mandarin and Taiwanese, presenting an interesting contrast to missionary work in other areas. The church also operates Xinji Junior High School, the Holy Family Kindergarten, and the Xiaoai Senior Care Center, benefitting the residents of Donggang. After nearly half a century, the Donggang Catholic Church has become a new landmark of Donggang.
