Catholic Church Introduction
The Donggang Catholic Church was established in 1955 by Father Lin De-ming of the Dominican Order. Its original site was at the current location of the Xinji Junior High School Early Childhood Education Building. In 1960, it moved to Zhongshan Road. The church features a modern architectural design with a sloped roof, symbolizing the tents that the faithful relied on during their long journey out of Egypt, with the slanted edges pointing towards the heavens, representing the guiding path to paradise. The construction of the church was funded entirely by donations from the Dominican Order abroad, not from Taiwan. Initially, due to language differences, the priest delivered sermons in both Mandarin and Taiwanese, which was a unique aspect of the missionary efforts compared to other places. The church is also associated with the Xinji Junior High School, Holy Family Kindergarten, and Xiaoaizhen Elderly Care Center, benefiting the residents of Donggang. After nearly half a century, the Donggang Catholic Church has become a new landmark in Donggang.
