Juguang Tourist Center Introduction
Matsu's Juguang Township was formerly known as Baiken, which means "white dog" in a phonetic representation of the Fuzhou dialect's word for "dog." The two islands are shaped like two small dogs lying on the surface of the sea, hence the names Dongjian Island (East Dog Island) and Xijian Island (West Dog Island). In 1971, it was renamed Juguang Township, taking the meaning "Do not forget Juguang," and the islands were renamed Dongju and Xiju. The Juguang Visitor Center is located next to the Fuzheng settlement on Dongju Island. The visitor center, designed in a style reminiscent of Eastern Fujian architecture, blends seamlessly with the surrounding lighthouse and stone houses, creating a very distinctive building that gives off a resort-like atmosphere. With views of both the sea and mountains, resting at the visitor center while reading travel materials becomes a delightful experience. Inside the visitor center, visitors can watch introductory videos and get information on various activities. There is also a Fuzheng Blue Tears Station nearby, where tourists can rest and sample local delicacies like clams and red yeast chicken dishes. If you have the opportunity to visit Juguang, don’t miss this stop!
