Fuzheng Settlement Introduction
Fuzheng Village, a must-visit spot on Dongju Island, showcases the simple and rustic charm of Eastern Fujian and bears witness to the migration of settlements. The plain scenery leaves a deep impression on visitors. There is a local saying in Dongju: "In summer, Fuzheng; in winter, Dapu." Since Dapu Village is located at the southern end, it can effectively shelter from the northeast winds in winter while Fuzheng Village at the northern end of Dongju Island is the most suitable for habitation during the summer southwest winds. This allowed early residents of Dongju Island to follow the seasons and fish in both villages as the saying suggests. Once the most prosperous village in Dongju, Fuzheng has seen its past glory fade with a decrease in catch and the migration of residents, leaving behind incomplete stone houses and the Dongju Island Lighthouse. The Baima Zunwang Temple, which still quietly guards the village, remains a part of this atmosphere. The architectural style of the village is predominantly simple, featuring two-tier water drainage and rough stone walls, presenting a different ambiance compared to Qinbi. Only about ten households reside in the village, making it tranquil and pure, offering a unique flavor. In recent years, the government has vigorously promoted the preservation of the village, leading to a revival of Fuzheng, which was once desolate, now becoming a precious cultural heritage of the area. While the sight of empty buildings may evoke a sense of melancholy, the tranquil beauty it exudes is a unique cultural aura of Matsu’s traditional settlements. Entering Fuzheng Village reveals its pure and serene beauty. The tiled roofs and brick walls, shaped by the passage of time, exhibit a sense of history. From a distance, the vibrant, flame-shaped fireproof wall of the Baima Zunwang Temple stands out prominently. It is said that the temple was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty and was reconstructed in 2000 due to its dilapidated structure. It mainly enshrines Baima Zunwang and his wife, with the accompanying deities being Linshui Furen and Ma Yuanshuai, who protect the village.
