Fuzheng Settlement Introduction
Simple and plain Fujian Eastern style, witnessing the migration of settlements. A must-visit attraction on Dongju Island is the Fujeng Settlement, where the simple scenery leaves a deep impression. There is a local saying in Dongju: "Summer Fujeng, Winter Dapu." Since Dapu Village is located at the southern end, it can fend off the northeast wind in winter, while the southwest wind blows in summer, making Fujeng Village at the northern end of Dongju Island the most suitable for settlement. Early inhabitants of Dongju Island, as the saying goes, would move back and forth between the two villages for fishing according to the seasons. Fujeng Settlement was once the most prosperous village in Dongju. As fish catches decreased and residents moved away along with a reduction in military presence, its former glory faded, leaving behind crumbling stone houses accompanied by the Dongju Island Lighthouse, along with the Baima Zunwang Temple, which still quietly guards the village. The architectural style in the settlement features simple two-way slopes and random stone masonry. Compared to Qinshi, it presents a different atmosphere. Only about ten households reside in the settlement, offering tranquility and simplicity, with a unique flavor. In recent years, the government has vigorously promoted the preservation of settlements. Fujeng Village, which was once deserted, has gradually come back to life, becoming a precious cultural heritage of the area. The scene of empty houses may evoke melancholy, but the serene beauty it radiates is a unique cultural atmosphere of traditional settlements in Matsu.
