Fujeng Community Introduction
The Simple and Unadorned Charm of Eastern Fujian: Witnessing Migration in the Settlement A must-visit spot on Dongjugu Island is the Fuzheng Settlement, where the simple scenery leaves a deep impression. There is a local saying in Dongjugu: "Summer in Fuzheng, winter in Dapu." Due to Dapu Village's location at the southern end, it can shield against the northeast winds in winter, while the southwest winds blow in summer, making Fuzheng Village at the northern end of Dongjugu Island the most suitable place for habitation. This allowed the early residents of Dongjugu Island to fish in the two villages, just as the saying goes, traveling back and forth according to the seasons. Fuzheng Settlement was once the most prosperous village in Dongjugu. However, as fish catches declined and residents moved away along with a decrease in military presence, the former glory faded. Today, only the remains of crumbling stone houses and the Dongjugu Lighthouse remain, accompanied by the Baima Zunwang Temple, which still quietly guards the village. The architectural style of the village is mostly simple, featuring two-tiered roofs and rubble stone construction, creating a different atmosphere compared to Qimbi. Around ten households currently inhabit the settlement, maintaining a tranquil and rustic charm with a unique character. In recent years, the government has actively promoted the preservation of settlements, and Fuzheng Village has gradually revived from its once desolate state, becoming a precious cultural heritage of the region. The empty houses may evoke feelings of nostalgia, but they also exude a tranquil beauty that distinctly embodies the cultural atmosphere of traditional Matsu settlements. The Time-Honored Baima Zunwang Temple Stepping into Fuzheng Settlement, one can appreciate its simple and tranquil beauty. The roofs and brick walls, shaped by the passage of time, showcase a sense of history. In the distance, the vibrant flame-shaped facade of the Baima Zunwang Temple stands out prominently. The temple is said to have been built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. In 2000, due to the old structure, it was demolished and rebuilt, dedicating the main deity Baima Zunwang, along with his wife and the accompanying deity Linshui Fujin and Marshal Ma, to guard the village.
