Dakang Island Introduction
Searching for Formosan Sika Deer Known as "Deer Island," Daqiu Island is located to the north of Beigan Island and is adjacent to Gaodeng Island. It can only be reached by inter-island transportation boats. In the past, there were residents and military stationed on the island, with the population peaking at over three hundred. However, due to changes in the times and population migration to Nangan and Beigan, Daqiu Island has transformed into an uninhabited island. Today, it is the only uninhabited island in Matsu that can be visited. There is a 400-500 meter long ecological trail on Daqiu Island. Walking along this trail, visitors can see various cute Formosan Sika Deer and scenes of military facilities. In addition to the deer, it is also possible to see flying terns during the summer. If you visit Matsu, a trip to Daqiu Island is highly recommended for its unique ecological environment, which will leave you with unforgettable memories. Encountering Formosan Sika Deer in Matsu Around 1980, Taipei Zoo donated five Formosan Sika Deer to the Lienjiang County Government. After core breeding and assessment, they were transported to Daqiu Island in Beigan for release. After several decades, the herd has adapted to the island environment, leisurely roaming and beginning to reproduce. The number of deer on the island has now increased several times compared to when they were first released. Experience on Uninhabited Daqiu Island Limited Culinary Delicacy: Mountain-Raised Centipede Chicken When visiting Daqiu Island, in addition to facing the Formosan Sika Deer, you can choose to stay in a renovated Min Dong traditional house or experience a limited local dish — roasted centipede chicken. The free-range chickens are raised in the mountain pastures of Daqiu Island, which is abundant in grass and moisture, providing a plentiful source of centipedes and earthworms as nutrition for these black chickens. The roasted centipede chicken is a delicacy that requires advance reservations on Daqiu Island! Note: It is recommended to consult Daqiu Island Ecological Homestay for accommodation and culinary experiences before departure.
