Sun Moon Lake Cycling Path - Shuishe Section Introduction
The bike path extends approximately 3.5 kilometers from Shuishe Wharf along the northern shore of Sun Moon Lake to Chaowu Wharf, Zhushiyuan, and Wenwu Temple. Certain sections offer views of the Hanbi Peninsula and Shuishe Wharf, making it a gentle route suitable for the public. The entrance to the Shuishe waterfront trail is located to the left of Shuishe Wharf, serving as an important pedestrian connection from Shuishe Wharf to Jiulongkou. The entire trail is equipped with accessible ramps, making it very suitable for families with children, easy to walk, and follows the lakeside wooden boardwalk directly to Jiulongkou via Chaowu Wharf. The trail is shaded by lush greenery, preventing one from feeling the summer heat. Rest areas are provided along the way for visitors to take a break or gaze into the distance, enjoying the sight of boats traversing the lake; or the tranquil lake surface reflecting sunlight, glistening as if thousands of gold and silver coins have fallen into the water. On misty days, Xuanzang Temple on the Qingshan Mountain appears like an ancient temple from a Chinese landscape painting, evoking feelings of nostalgia. Meanwhile, the Cien Pagoda on Shabalan Mountain is visible from various angles along the trail, standing atop the hill like a sword, always guarding Sun Moon Lake. Upon reaching Jiulongkou, there is an artificial floating isle covered with wild ginger flowers, where one might occasionally spot a night heron hiding beneath the foliage, preparing to hunt. If one still has the interest and energy, they can continue to the Wenwu Temple's stairway or ascend to the opposite Zhushiyuan for another segment of their journey. At night, looking back toward Shuishe Wharf from the trail, the lights of hotels and restaurants twinkle, shining like colorful jewels against the backdrop of darkness, even more dazzling.
