National Chi Nan University Introduction
Founded in 1995 in Puli Township, Nantou County, which is at the geographical center of Taiwan, National Chi Nan University (NCNU) is dedicated to promoting Chinese culture to the south and overseas. The university aims to cultivate well-rounded talents rooted in Taiwan with international mobility, encompassing disciplines in the humanities, management, technology, and education. The surrounding towns of NCNU feature a blend of rural and urban characteristics, bordering the traditional domains of indigenous peoples, and showcasing a rich multicultural environment. In proximity to well-known recreational sites such as Sun Moon Lake, the New Central Cross-Island Highway, and Hehuan Mountain, the university has gradually developed multiple interdisciplinary, participatory innovative teaching programs that resonate with regional industrial dynamics, establishing a distinctive educational characteristic of "deep cultivation in the Shuili River region and outreach to Southeast Asia." Located in a suburban plateau of Puli, NCNU is sheltered by the Central Mountain Range, Hehuan Mountain, and Xueshan Mountain. The 150-hectare campus is covered by 88% lush green grasslands and is surrounded by over 12,000 trees of 113 species, including Taiwan's red cypress. Cherry, plum, and osmanthus trees beautify the campus, which is also home to more than ten species of frogs and 110 species of butterflies. The curriculum integrates green energy, waste reduction, and smart machinery, achieving an international ranking of 51st in the "World Green University" evaluation, and 3rd in Taiwan. The campus features 700 Taiwan mountain cherry trees and over 300 Japanese double-flowered cherry trees, which bloom in bright red, soft pink, or delicate white flowers during the chilly spring months of February and March, attracting large crowds to appreciate the cherry blossoms and participate in tea events organized by the university and the community, experiencing the beauty of everyday life.
