Tiao Shui Old Trail Introduction

The Tiao Shui Ancient Path is located between Dazhu Village and Xitou Village in Fengyuan Township, Changhua. It is a stone-paved road that people used to walk to fetch mountain spring water in the past. At the entrance, there is an archway resembling a Shinto shrine gate. About 1 kilometer ahead is a point where vehicle access is restricted. When walking, the initial section of the path is relatively easier, but it then leads into the mountain trail where the ancient path is located, which has significant elevation changes. It is recommended that elderly visitors carry trekking poles for easier navigation. During the Qing Dynasty, the early settlers cultivated the land and sought sources of water, discovering a channel at the foot of Bagua Mountain that springs year-round. They then dug two wells, Long and Feng, and constructed a small mountain path for fetching water, using stones to form step-like trails. The exact time of the trail's construction is unknown, but it is believed to be at least a hundred years old. The two wells have since dried up, and this area was redeveloped into a hiking trail only after the expansion of County Road 139 and the construction of flood control channels. The Tiao Shui Ancient Path is also one of the eight major tung flower viewing spots in Changhua. At the entrance stands a thousand-year-old welcoming tung tree, followed by numerous tung trees lining the path. During the tung flower season in spring and summer, the petals fall and cover the entire road, creating the illusion of walking in snow. Along the ancient path, there are pavilions and wooden benches under trees where visitors can sit and quietly appreciate the blooming and drifting tung flowers, fully enjoying this romantic and serene time.
