Tiao Shui Ancient Trail Introduction

The Tiao Shui Ancient Path is located between Dazhu Village and Xitou Village in Fengyuan Township, Changhua. It is a stone-paved road that early inhabitants used to access mountain spring water, and it is one of the six ancient paths for porters in Bagua Mountain. At the entrance, there is an archway resembling a torii gate. About 1 kilometer ahead is a vehicle control point. After getting off the vehicle, the path at the front is easier to walk, but as you enter the middle mountain trail, the path to the ancient road has significant elevation changes, so it is recommended for seniors to use trekking poles for easier navigation. During the Qing dynasty, pioneers cultivated land in search of water sources and discovered a channel at the foot of Bagua Mountain where springs flowed year-round. They then dug two wells, named Long and Feng, and used stones to build a stepped pathway leading to the water source. The exact time of the pathway's construction is unknown, but it is estimated to be at least several hundred years old. The two wells have since dried up, and it was only after the expansion of County Road 139 (Dazhang Road) and Zhangnan Road that the area was incorporated into a flood control channel and reconstructed as a hiking trail. The Tiao Shui Ancient Path is also one of the eight major tung flower viewing spots in Changhua. At the entrance stands a millennium-old tung tree, followed by numerous tung trees lining the road. During the spring and summer tung flower season, petals fall and cover the entire path, creating an illusion of walking in snow. Along the ancient path, there are pavilions and wooden benches under the trees, where visitors can take a moment to sit, quietly appreciate the blooming of tung flowers and the fluttering petals, and fully enjoy this romantic and tranquil time.
