Shiang Water Ancient Trail Introduction

The Tiao Shui Old Trail is located between Dazhu Village and Xitou Village in Fengyuan Township, Changhua. It is a stone-paved path used by early settlers to access mountain spring water. At the entrance, there is an archway resembling a torii gate. About one kilometer forward is the vehicle control point. When walking on foot, the initial section of the path is relatively easy, but as you enter the middle mountain trail, the terrain becomes more uneven, so it is advisable for elderly visitors to carry trekking poles for easier navigation. During the Qing Dynasty, early settlers explored the area for water sources and discovered a channel at the foot of Bagua Mountain that flowed year-round with spring water. They excavated two wells, named Long and Feng, and built a small mountain path with rock steps for water collection. The exact date of the path’s construction is unknown, but it is estimated to be at least a hundred years old. The two wells have since dried up, and it wasn't until the expansion of County Road 139 and the construction of flood control channels that the trail was redeveloped as a hiking path. The Tiao Shui Old Trail is also one of Changhua's eight cherry blossom viewing spots, with a thousand-year-old Paulownia tree at the entrance. Along the road, there are numerous Paulownia trees. During the spring and summer seasons when the flowers bloom, the fallen petals cover the entire path, resembling a walk in the snow. There are pavilions and wooden benches under the trees along the old trail, where you can sit for a moment and quietly admire the blooming and swirling Paulownia flowers, fully enjoying this romantic and tranquil time.
