Giant Rock Trail Introduction
In the Lijia Village, head southwest into the deep mountains toward "Jushi Slope" following the signs. The journey includes a scenic stretch along the creek, crossing bridges, and entering the mountain industrial road, totaling about 8 kilometers. Although the path is long, the picturesque views along the way allow you to see behind Xiangshan and the jagged peaks along the Alishan Highway (Tai 18). However, it is certainly a challenging yet beautiful journey. This segment leading to Jushi Slope, as well as Jushi Slope itself, has these characteristics; it would significantly reduce the travel risks if a community member familiar with the local environment leads the way. After winding through several turns on the mountain road, you will reach a steep slope where you can see the "Limei Refuge Trail" entrance that connects Lijia to Shanmei. After passing through a section of farm road between cliffs and bamboo forests, you will finally arrive at the parking lot for the "Jushi Slope Trail." From the industrial road at the parking lot entrance, head to the top of Jushi Slope, "Jushi Slope Peak," then descend along the adjacent trail, which will provide the best route to fully experience and appreciate the beauty of Jushi Slope. Crossing streams and passing through bamboo forests, the alerts of unknown animals signal that you have indeed arrived at a secluded paradise. At the end of this short trail lies the noticeably sloping Jushi Slope. With the aid of a rope, it won't be long before you reach the top of the trail and catch a glimpse of the Jushi Slope Peak. The erosion grooves, cracks on the massive rock slab, and the trickling water flowing between or submerged within them are geological features that geologists or related enthusiasts would love to explore and study. From Jushi Slope Peak, slowly descend along the adjacent trail. Since the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Herb in 2006, the 700-meter stretch of exposed rock slab has been revealed to the world, and under the boardwalk in the middle of the trail, you can also see potholes. The viewing pavilion at the end of the trail not only provides a graceful spot to relax but also offers a beautiful view of Danaik Valley.
