Giant Stone Steps Trail Introduction
In the Lijia Tribe, head southwest into the deep mountains towards "Giant Rock Slope" following the signs. The journey involves about 8 kilometers of walking along rivers, crossing bridges, and then entering the industrial road of the mountainous area. Although the path is long, the scenery is picturesque, offering views of the back of Xiangshan and the stunning peaks along the Alishan Highway (Tai 18 Line). However, the natural beauty comes with its challenges. This section of the road to Giant Rock Slope and the slope itself has such characteristics, and having local community members familiar with the environment to guide you can significantly reduce travel risks. After navigating several winding mountain roads, you will reach a steep incline and see an entrance to the "Limei Refuge Trail" that connects Lijia to Shanmei. After traversing a stretch of farmland between cliffs and bamboo groves, you will finally arrive at the parking lot for the "Giant Rock Slope Trail." From the entrance of the parking area, follow the industrial road towards the highest point of Giant Rock Slope, then descend along the trail beside it, which will be the best route to fully experience and enjoy the scenery of Giant Rock Slope. Crossing streams and passing through bamboo groves, the sounds of unknown animals alert you to the fact that you have truly arrived in a remote paradise. At the end of this short trail is the clearly sloped Giant Rock Slope. With the aid of ropes, you can soon reach the top of the trail and glimpse the features of Giant Rock Slope. The erosion grooves, cracks, and the trickling waters that overflow or disappear among the giant rock slabs present a geographic landscape that geologists and related enthusiasts are eager to explore. From the top of Giant Rock Slope, slowly descend along the accompanying trail. In the wake of the torrential rains brought by Typhoon Herbart in 2006, not only can you see the 700-meter-long exposed rock surface, but also sinkholes beneath the bridges in the middle of the trail. At the viewpoint pavilion, which provides a charming place to relax, you can also gaze upon the beautiful scenery of Danaik Valley.
