Baguashan Baolin Temple Introduction
Songshan Village is located in the rural area of Minhsiung, with vast land, mountains and water, and beautiful scenery. The old place names include Songzijiao, Songzai Jiao Zhuang, and Houshanzi Zhuang. The village has vibrant religious activities and is situated at the boundary of Houshanzi's eighth neighborhood and Zhuci Township, originally referred to by locals as Baxianshan. Baxianshan was once a barren mountainous area. One day, Master Guan Miao (the founding abbot of Baolin Zen Temple) was walking southward while prostrating every three steps. When he passed by Xiangjiao Mountain in Dalin, Chiayi, it is said that a bodhisattva manifested, guiding believers to direct him to the current location. In 1960 (the 49th year of the Republic of China), a thatched hut was initially established on site. With his hard work and the assistance of Master Du Miao, as well as the enthusiastic help from local villagers, everyone contributed their efforts, and a magnificent Baolin Zen Temple was finally built in the desolate mountains. Surrounded by mountains, the site offers a beautiful environment. The temple occupies about 2 hectares, primarily enshrining Shakyamuni Buddha. The tranquil surroundings are home to about seven or eight residents, four of whom are ordained nuns. The temple also provides elderly care services, allowing those who are able to help with temple chores to reside here for free. Currently, Baolin Zen Temple is overseen by Master Xing Ding, a disciple of Guan Miao. Coming from a family of timber merchants in Chiayi City, she has invested much effort and effort into expanding the temple, attracting more devotees to worship and participate in the temple's activities.
