Dingzhuang Community Introduction
Dingzhuang Village in Chiayi City has successfully transformed its environment through ecological renovation over the years. The old Taiwan Sugar Corporation railway has been repurposed into a community bicycle path, flanked by wax trees that host large groups of stag beetles, creating delightful surprises for visitors! The restoration of stag beetles is no easy task; the Dingzhuang community has improved water quality, enhanced the environment, planted wax trees, and built the bicycle path to create a suitable living environment, bringing the stag beetles back. Every mid-May, stag beetles emerge from the soil to seek mates and reproduce, with hundreds gathering on the wax trees, displaying various postures and even engaging in battles, a spectacular sight to behold. Stag beetles are affectionately known as the "Armored Warriors." The "Stag Beetle Tracking" event runs annually from mid-May to the end of June, inviting the public to bring their families along and let children connect with nature while reminiscing about their childhood. Notably, in 2017, Chiayi City Government held the "First Golden Rural Competition," and Dingzhuang Community won the top prize, being selected as a Golden Rural community.
