Dingzhong Community Introduction
Dingzhuang Village in Chiayi City has made significant progress in ecological transformation over the years, turning the old Taiwan Sugar Corporation railway into a community bike path. Along the path, numerous Lucanus maculatus beetles can be seen congregating around the Dynapan tree, much to everyone's delight! The reintroduction of the Lucanus maculatus beetle is not an easy task; however, the Dingzhuang community has created a suitable living environment by improving water quality, enhancing their surroundings, planting Dynapan trees, and establishing bike paths to bring the beetles back. Every mid-May, the Lucanus maculatus emerges from the soil to find mates and reproduce. Hundreds of these beetles gather on the Dynapan trees, displaying various postures and even engaging in battles, creating a stunning spectacle. The Lucanus maculatus is affectionately known as the "Armored Warrior." The "Searching for Lucanus maculatus Traces" event is held annually from mid-May to the end of June, inviting families to participate and allowing children to connect with nature and relive childhood memories. Notably, the Chiayi City Government held the "First Gold Medal Rural Competition" in 2017, with Dingzhuang Village winning first place and being selected as a Gold Medal Rural area.
